[WM] Dryads
« on: April 01, 2019, 11:06:44 PM »
It's taken me a while to get there but I've made 6 stands of dryads. I'm posting this in the hope that it will spur me on to get pictures taken this week with the view to getting advice from people who have done some casting as to bits that won't work and would need to be redone. More to come..

Does anyone who has actually cast a 10mm miniature got any feedback regarding "castability" please?

I don't see too many opportunities for undercuts, but it's hard to tell with pictures alone. Some of the fingers/horns look pretty thin, you might have issues getting them to fill or, if they do, they may be fragile.

Are you looking to do resin or metal?

They are thin but there's some thin bits on other models I've seen that work. They would have to be spin cast in metal. Making the mold would be the real craft. It might be easier if the hands could be taken right back and greenstuff fingers added in after. To be honest I think they'll be too tricky to make a mold. There's probably a few there that would work but overall it's closer than last time but still not quite where they need to be. Yet.

You should really post this to the Warmaster Facebook group.  I think a lot of people would be excited to see them.

Dave, thanks for feedback by the way. I'll have another stab at these over the next few months but the constant issue I have is marrying a pose which isn't completely static with something that can be cast.  Hopefully I can get a game in with these at some point in the next few months when I've got them painted up.

I'm not one for Facebook Tiberius but if you want to stick them on there then feel free. I'm sticking to this forum because the folks who kept the game alive long enough for me to find it are here.

These are really good, well done on sculpting them in strips, and there is good variety, hoping you will be able to get these cast one day

You've got about 50 likes on facebook for your work!  Hopefully that means plenty of people who would buy them.  I'd love to help support a little financially for making these happen.

I appreciate the off big T but the trick is creating a mold. I might try a visit to some local casting blokes that are just outside London at some point and see if they think it'll be possible. Might be a month or two before this happens.
