Endeavour Heavy lists?
« on: March 28, 2019, 09:13:17 AM »
Alright chaps. I'm thinking of a fleet just for casual gaming and wanted to try out a fleet that was based around mainly Endeavour Variant Hulls. It's probably not going to be awesome but, hey anyone done anything like it before?

Happy to use any ruleset but I'm pretty sure we're going to use either BFG:R or BFG:XR. Anyway, I was thinking...

Fleet Admiral with additional Re-roll [75]
Oberon Battleship [355]

2x Endeavour Cruisers [220]
2x Defiant Cruisers [220]

6x Falchion Frigates [210]
6x Falchion Frigates [210]
6x Firestorm Frigates [210]

I wanted to go fairly light, for background reasons really. Its more of an anti-pirate/patrol fleet bases in a sub-Sector no one really knows, or cares about and has little worth. So figured they'd not have the best gear. Not sure I want the Firestorms in there to be honest as they're a bit to Hi-Tech. Could swap 'em out for 2 more Endeavours I guess.

I do not have any experience with the Endeavours, but unless you know you re not gonna face any well-armoured fleet you might want to keep the firestorms to have at least some lance capability! If that is no concern you could switch them out for the Havoc-class, which is a very thematically outdated class as well  ;)

Swapping out the Firestorms foe sword would be a good shout alos, they are supposed to be easy to build and maintain.

I do like the Endeavors, and adding 2 more would probably be the way I'd go but that would put you at 1510 (I'm assuming a 1500pt list),  so you'd have to drop an escort.

My main opponents will either be Imperial or Chaos. Might have some Orks as well to contend with.

I could grab some swords, but they are very similar to the Falchions. Is it worth it? I suppose a squadron that doesn't rely on a command check would be handy. A thought, what about a reserve Mechanicus Cruiser? Although they are an irritating 215pts! Or something else reserved in? Or anything else fun?

Hmm, maybe a grand cruiser of some sort?

@Lord Borak: I see, If you are going up against 6+ armour then stick with the Firestorms!

Only brought up the sword as I prefer them to the Falchion. They have more firepower, don't need to reload and have 2 turrets, although if you're using XR, they also have 2.

A grand Cruiser could work. Again, if you are using XR the Avenger is 205pts with the Improved Thrusters, just AAF and let rip! Not the most tactical of vessels but a damn fun one to use.:D

Just my 2p worth, anyway. Let us know how you get on.

When I started my AdMech list had a Defiant and I lost all battles; I swapped it for an Endeavour I started winning.

So, yes, Endeavours are good. Defiants are not...

Why do you think Defiants are bad? I put them in for fluffy reasons really. They're supposed to be good escorts and convoy flag ships, which is what I wanted the fleet to be based around.

I could swap the Oberon to a Vanquisher. That's also thematic and provides some long distance lances.

I really really really like the concepts of Defiants. But they are unsuited for fleet engagements. They are very easy suppressed. Even two lances at long range aimed at a Defiant could be a disaster : if you don brace getting a hit is quickly done but if you brace it is bye bye ordnance.

But the concept of this light cruiser with ordnance doing deep space patrol on its own is just excellent. Small skirmish encounters versus few enemy escorts and scenarios like that.

I see your point. They are rather a wet paper bag. I had intended to have them hide behind asteroids and the like but I guess there aren't that many high threat targets in this fleet to detract attention away from them. Maybe I'll leave them for larger games.... Which is kinda sad because I did want to believe in them! I'll give them a couple of goes at least.

What about...

Fleet-Admiral with additional Re-Roll [75]
Oberon Battleship [355]

2x Dictator [420]
2x Endeavour/Dauntless [220]

4x Falchion Class Frigates [140]
4x Falchion Class Frigates [140]
4x Falchion Class Frigates [140]

Total: 1490pts

Still keeping the Patrol fleet feel. I kinda like Dictator cruisers as patrol cruisers. Not sure if the Endeavour would be better or the Dauntless?

Endeavors, Endurances and Defiants fit into a very strange and very fun niche in the Imperial Navy.

Where the Dauntless functions essentially as a huge escort craft, the EED crew serve as smaller versions of larger ships, namely the gothic, dominator and Dominion.

This essentially means that they serve two functions:Replace the standard cruisers and increase battle cruisers on the table, setting the stage for the Armageddon battlecruiser and it's absurd firepower.

Just realize that they do not function well with escorts, but function great with other standard cruisers, providing turret support and  extra firepower to your normal cruisers.

That was pretty much what was thinking. Squadron a Dictator up with an Endeavour for some mutual protection and leadership help.

Armageddons are amazingly brutal Battlecruisers. I love them to bits and have four in my other fleet. However, I was trying to do something a little different with this list and take the things I haven't taken before. Hence the Oberon, Endeavours and Falchions.

Another Battleship I've never tried out is the Vanquisher. It seems a bit pants at first but for a measly 300pts it actually looks pretty tough for it's points. Kinda like the Lunar class' bigger, meaner brother. Although, that would mean I can't take the Dictators so would have to swap them out with more Endeavours and/or Dauntless.

My preferred combos are:

Lunar+endeavor+endeavor.

Gothic+endeavor+endeavor

Dominator+defiant+defiant

Dominion+endurance+endurance

Pretty sure you mean a Dictator in one of those Combo's!
