{WM} Evil Dwarfs- preferred aesthetic?
« on: February 01, 2018, 09:07:00 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking into getting some 10mm evil dwarf axemen commissioned, but was wondering what people preferred in terms of visual style. I'm an unashamed fan of bad dwarfs in big hats, but I can understand that my passion isn't necessarily shared across the community.

Looking around at various evil dwarf ranges, they tend to be of 3 types:

1. Large hats
2. Medium-sized hats
3. No hats, either masks or barbarian-style helmets.

I'm looking to partner up with an existing 10mm company to get these cast and sold (so I don't have to look after that side of things), so I'd like to know what the community is after in terms of evil dwarf headwear. The eventual size of the range will largely depend on future sales, so this is pretty important.

Let me know!

I'd go for large hats. However, my Chaos Dwarf army is complete, (mostly Eureka figures), so I'd tend to use these as basic warriors but imagine they were some sort of elite/guard type unit. So I'd only want 2 units at most.

Good luck with them though, gotta love those evil little dudes.

I'm a big fan of the pre-big hat Chaos Dwarves.

So I'm more in chaos dwarves like the ones here :

All different. Heavy armors. Mutations.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I do wonder how much more of the (let's face it, already small) potential playerbase has already gone with Eureka's range...

I know that there are a number of people that like this style, but I'm a little concerned about their viability as a new line is that Eureka already offers them.

Well Eureka are the only figures available. Good sculpts if expensive.

The mix of figures is a bit odd, I've got several sorcerers spare, if anyone is interested. Wouldn't mind swapping them for some blunderbuss guys if possible.

I suppose that's another question worth asking- axes or blunderbuss to start the range off?

Definitely axes. I think you'd get more sales. They could also proxy for Chaos Warriors.

Will they be compatible with the Eureka range? That might help to boost sales as well.

I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't have any of the Eureka ones- can you tell me how tall they are in mm? I'm thinking 7-8mm tall dwarfs, 4mm tall hats.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm all the way down in Australia, so it'd be far for trouble than it's worth! I can go off online comparison photos- they seem to be pretty much exactly the same as WM dwarfs, which I'm 99% sure is about 7mm to the eye.

OK, I'll try to post some photos this weekend - I'm not back home until late on Saturday.

I'd copy the forge world resin chaos dwarves and do two units, like they did initially - axe men and blunderbusses.

Not convinced by top hat men at this scale?

My two penneth anyway

As I said earlier, my main issue with that is that people who want that style can already get them (or have already got them).

Even if I don't go the big hat route- what about a mask and something like this ancient Armenian helm?

I was doodling rough ideas for banner and shield designs ages ago - I am definitely in favour of the 90s style big hats as - yes, the Eureka ones do the 80s style style well enough for me.

Those look great!

Between here and other places online, I think the hats are edging ahead too. I’m hoping to get a sculptor sorted over the next week or so.
