Eldar vs Tau game report
« on: October 12, 2017, 12:11:10 AM »
BFG XR game in link, using a couple of proxy fleets.
Any ideas on tackling vast numbers of Tau Ordnance appreciated too! :)
Thanks!

A very nice game report!

Also the scratchbuilt Tau look very good.

One thing I keep in my Chaos fleet from time to time is a small squad of the most inexpensive junk available (I think I get three escorts for 75 points or something) just to smash into a torpedo salvo that I know I wont get rid of in time. Saved a grand cruiser one time!
I know it is a fair bit more expensive for Craftworld Eldar, but isn't there also an Escort that specialises in anti-ordonance?
Never saw them used, just some ideas off the top of my head.

Cheers Chios!

Yes I see the Shadowhunters have some speciality... though not sure that would be enough in this instance given they also cost 45 points each.
A Shadowhunter class destroyer’s direct fire weapons will hit enemy ordnance on a roll of 4+
rather than 6+.

Aye! Needs more escorts. :) 1 Wraithship for four Hunters would already be good enough.

Yes, you need to be decisive against the Explorers. If you had crippled two the Eldar would get more fun. :)

The Void Dragon should have been more into it. It has devastating weaponry. And the sun-effect movement needs pre-planning. And, yes, the more you play it gets better. As you wrote a 50cm movement + 30cm weaponry means a 80cm striking range.
Perhaps the inititial lock-on run should've been a tactical placement move.

But learning is fun!

Another great game.  And report.  Thanks.

Have thought of a few more wrinkles to try and cope
with a dispersed Tau Fleet.  To say nothing of the, shall
we say, feverish work of the Colonial Tau Earth Caste.

Fourth report, another escalating engagement, plus some impressive new ship construction!

On game 3:
The Tau may have won on vp but the moral winner are the Eldar as they claimed that part of space. ;)

Other way around, Eldar disengage and win on vp but Tau hold the Void of Battle, but a close game none-the-less.

I like to think of this Eldar "victory" in terms of the inscrutable Eldar aims for victory.  The Explorer which got smashed up was carrying the Ethearal Aun'O.  Clearly they were teaching the Tau a "lesson" and it helped focus the mind on how to get assets to the site of battle.  And it provoked the Earth Caste to massive construction efforts.  So all in all a VICTORY for the local BFG scene.  Even if we are slightly radical with BFG:XR.

The Tau Convoy is gathering to deliver further raw materials to the Colonial Systems.
