Yriel re-roll costs
« on: August 20, 2016, 04:10:45 AM »
Quote from: BFG 2010 FAQ, Craftworld Eldar section
Prince Yriel, Bearer of the Flame, Autarch of Iyanden - 150 points... He has one re-roll as part of his point cost, but a second or third re-roll must be purchased at the cost listed for Eldar Heroes.

Quote from: BFG 2010 FAQ, Iyanden Craftworld Fleet List
Eldar Hero (Ld 10) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100 points
You may purchase re-rolls for your Eldar Hero by paying the cost listed below:
One re-roll . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50 points
Two re-rolls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75 points
Three re-rolls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100 points

As stated above, Yriel costs 150 points but comes with a re-roll for free.  If you want a 2nd or 3rd re-roll, how much would they cost for Yriel?

A) As stated above, he may have additional re-rolls for the points cost listed, so gaining one additional re-roll (for a total of 2) would be +75 points, while gaining two (total 3) would be +100 points.

B) Because the 50 point re-roll is included in Yriel's cost, he gives that up when purchasing the other re-rolls as a block (each re-roll is not purchased separately).  Therefore one additional re-roll (total 2) would be +75-50=+25 points, and two additional (total 3) would be +100-50=+50.

From a language standpoint both are valid.  However if A is true then Yriel is a terrible character unless you limit yourself to one re-roll (at which point he gets a 20 point Aspect Warrior Fighting Crew free, so would be a great buy).  From a fairness standpoint, B would be more fair.

(He's an even better buy with The Flame of Asuryan dropping his points cost to 125, but the savings is still completely destroyed with option A)

Weird. I never noticed that line of the free re-roll. In the original version of long ago he was just 150pts without a re-roll.

In the original document Yriel's Raiders he was as following:
150pts for Yriel, Ld 10 and the reserve rules for Eldar
+50 for 1 re-roll
+75 for 2 re-rolls
+100 for 3 re-rolls

Yes, that is 250pts for Yriel with 3 re-rolls

The FAQ2010 version made the basic version better, so 1 re-roll is 150 instead of 200pts. But the second re-roll and
third re-roll stayed the same.

The way it is written now is kind a iffy. I shall delve into it... :)

Check out on how I used a Yriel with three re-rolls once....

The few times I've beaten Eldar with IN was when I took only Tyrants and Swords.  Even then it was close.  Your opponent should have taken a Retribution instead of the Emperor, dropped the Dauntelsses (not enough range) and taken more Swords and possibly Tyrants or Mars with the long range battery sensors if they needed fighter support.

We never tell which fleet we use. That makes it more exciting because you can't tailor.
