No IN all-launch bay ship?

Hiya, everyone. I noticed there isn't any cruiser or battlecruiser in the mainstream documents for the IN with all launch bays. Back when BFG came out we used to make conversions for all possible configurations, how come this one didn't survive down the years?

Anyway, to rehabilitate my old conversions from back then, here's the statline I was thinking:

POLARIS CLASS BATTLECRUISER
Classic stats: Cruiser/8, Armour 6+/5+, Turns 45, Speed 20, Shields 2, Turrets 2.
Port launch bays 3
Starboard launch bays 3
Dorsal lance battery 2, 60cm

Improved sensor array: A Polaris class battlecruiser adds +2 to Leadership for enemy ships on special orders rather than the usual +1. Because of the space the additional sensors take up, it may not take a power ram.

Improved Thrusters: A Polaris class battlecruiser has fewer high-energy weapon systems than otherships of similar size, leaving more power for its engines. It adds an additional +1d6cm speed when on All Ahead Full special orders.

What do you think? How much would you price it at?

Thank you! I knew I saw that "+2 for enemy on special orders" rule somewhere. How odd that the ship does not appear in BFG XR nor ASC2, which I both checked before making my ship  :o

The Jovian works for me. My main thing is that I ruined the prow of my ship long ago with a botched conversion and covering it in antennae is pretty much the only thing I can think of to salvage it.

Just for clarity, the Jovian was removed from the original BFG:R when Battlefleet Bakka was separated and made its own thing (but the IN list was never properly updated - only the BFG:R Bakka doc correctly replaced it). When I recombined them in BFG:XR, I left it out since the Bakka list was the more recent of the BFG:R documents.

Hope that explains things!

And as horizon says, XR and ASC are fan projects, not super-duper-ironclad-official-rules.  ;)

there's also the nemesis fleet carrier and I believe there is a grand cruiser which is all launch bays either in ASC or BFG:R

although why you'd want a grand cruiser reliant entirely on its launch bays I do not know, seems a waste of points

the nemesis I see the appeal of, but I'd only us it in larger than average games because again, it seems a waste of points otherwise.

Why not a Grand Cruiser. The Excorcist for example is really capable carrier and in a lot of fleet setups a better choice then a Dictator or Mars for example.
So a step to a 6lb Grand Cruiser would not be that weird for a fleet setup.

But I do not see the necessity to create such a vessel of course. :)

eh, grand cruisers never really appeal to me, a few do, but most of them seem a bit wasteful.

the all launch bay grand cruiser is the annihilator in ASC 2.0.

it just seems a waste, yeah you get strength 5 LB on each side, but one failed reload ordinance test and then what you've got is a rather large and expensive battering ram. Whilst it would be fun to be able to put that much ordinance down, I think I'd only find it viable in large games where I could spare ships specifically to provide close protection

Those halfbreed grand cruisers are abominations anyway, both visually and in the lore.

Oh no. Such remarks request for a banhammer.

  • The Imperial Grand Cruisers are much prettier then at first sight can be seen.
  • They have a place in the lore.
  • Two Vengeances alongside an Emperor are a brutal Imperial core. Similar applies to other Grand Cruisers. Use an abeam setup.

Sorry, but no. Star Wars III was pretty sad in trying too hard to bridge over the new and old aesthetic, but at least that tech looked like a legitimate intermediate stage, forced as it was. The Vengeance hull is literally some chump cutting up two models and more or less randomly gluing the bits back together. It could be an okayish design in a vacuum, but the talentless laziness of it is unbearably grating.

Vengeance sculpt looks bit of a rush-job: it looks good from side profile, but from up there are too many 'discontinuations' in the hull and it looks a bizarre mash-up. Also rules-wise, they tend to be undergunned for their physical size. Their firepower is no different from your average Chaos cruiser which is bit strange from such a large hull.

I always liked the concept of the Grand Cruisers as some kind of old, outdated, sturdy iron clad. They may not have a superior firepower compared to modern Battlecruisers but they make up for it with one additional shield and two more structure points.

I agree that the model design looks a bit weird. I’m trying to redesign the Grand Cruisers for my own fleet at the moment. I made the whole ship a little bit shorter to be at half the length between a Cruiser and a Battleship. I will also close all the gaps in the ship’s upper hull to make it look sturdier and less fragmented from a top view.

If everything goes as expected the first ship comes out of the printer next week.

Yea the gap in the upper hull is what somewhat ruins the ships looks. I thought about doing something to it myself but I do not have sculpting skills. Also, 'duckbill' prow is way too wide.

Repulsive, of course, is an awesome sculpt, maybe the best of entire BFG line. Unfortunately not anywhere as flexible as Vengeance.

Man, the Repulsive was our pie-in-the-sky model way back then when we were kids and BFG was new. We all adored it but our FLGS never got a single model in.

Many years later, long after we had stopped playing BFG, the first person to get a real job and a credit card did order one from GW direct, just so he could say he owned one. By that time Specialist Games stuff came in unmarked white boxes. His Repulsive is very likely the only one in my entire country.
