10mm (Back to work!) Fantasy Funfest
« on: April 22, 2016, 04:18:22 PM »
Hello there all!

I'm brand new to finally registering on the specialist games site, after being a regular lingerer a few years ago. So I thought I'd introduce myself with a project log since, lets face it, we all just like looking at models and getting an idea of what folks are into!

As for myself; I'm a collector who fell back into the hobby about a year and a half ago after finding a hoard of miniatures from the late 90's to early 2000's and relapsed..... bigtime. Since then I fall in and out of love with scales and games but my current passion is 10mm Fantasy, which I've been collecting on and off throughout my fall from the wagon, and am building up a number of Warmaster armies (proxies and all) as well as some mico-Mordheim warbands. Enough waffle, on with the pictures:

First up the beginnings of my micro-Mordheim Goblins (Polar Fox.... Yummy):

The start of my Araby/Free City army, test pieces for the front rank of some Elite Jezail marksmen unit:

And finally my Chaos Dwarf Maggot Monster complete with (rather obviously) homemade howdah and Cannon of Evil (the cannon is from a Dystopian wars model I think), still lots of construction work needed on the howdah i.e. more spikey bits. Here it is charging at some remarkably steadfast Goblins:

Thanks for looking and I'm looking forward to having a good rummage through the forum.

Welcome to a kindred spirit (i.e. professional lurker who recently returned to hobby after a number of years inspired by a purchase, or find, of some really cool 10mm minis) . Interested to see how the large maggot paints up - should be fun. Out of interest what brand are the arab blokes - nice paint job too. Look forward to more piccy's as your forces progress.
cheers

Hello again, I appear to have fallen off the internet for a while!

Thanks for the feedback chaps, I've been keeping busy and have a few more offerings to present. First up another couple of rather rum looking Goblins:

I've also decided to have ago at making some buildings for my 10mm micro-Mordheim. I haven't been able to find any decent medieval style ruins so I thought to hell with it, I must be able to make something with foamboard, card, matchsticks and lollipop sticks! And here we are, nearly done but I need to base it and cut quite a few more tiles:

And finally, here's a rather rough start at a sculpt for an Arabian style mage:

Thanks for looking, hopefully more appearing soon!

Those projects all look great!

I know you intend that for small scale Mordheim - but is interesting that finding 10mm ruins is rather difficult.  There was a chap a while ago on this forum who showed similar WIP pictures which looked really promising which he intended to cast and sell in resin but, unfortunately, we've not seen him in a bit.

The Arabian mage looks like an absolutely excellent start!  Are you creating a proxy Araby army, or perhaps using him to add spice to an Empire / Dogs of War army?

Thanks for all the positive noises guys, and apologies for the delay in responding.

Stormwind: I've finally finished the tiling on the house and am pretty pleased with the result, will get a photo up soon. I was thinking of planning some sort of modular ruin/building pieces since casting would be a bit of a nightmare otherwise, another project to add to the list, whether anyone would be interested in buying them on the other hand... well who knows? More on the Arabianesque wizard in a moment though, I've got plans!

Have managed to get a couple more Goblins painted up:

I'm really pleased with how these are progressing and they're great fun to paint!

Also currently on the go I've sculpted a bit more on the wizard - although no photo yet. I'm planning to basically sculpt a load of figures and have started on a spearman, I'm wondering if casting them would be a good idea but I'd have to outsource that and that'll be a bit of a learning curve... but hey, never too old to learn right? Need to get them sculpted first though! I suppose this links in with jchaos79's comment, I've got some of all Dave's Landsknechts and think the sculpting and casting is second-to-none so it's probably a bit out of my league. Happy to keep dreaming though!

Another little project is my 6mm proxy Empire pikemen (baccus6mm War of the Roses Mercenary Pikemen), which just need a bit more work and basing (groan), then I'll put a picture up. Guess I'll have to broaden the title of the thread though.

Lots to do, but loving every minute of it.

Thanks for looking.

Are you going to base them for warmaster 6mm?

I have persian and greek armies for warmaster ancient in 6mm and it is a pleasure to play with. I also play with alexander and indian 2mm armies. The experience is also very recommendable. Warmaster works great in smalls scales.

Nice work there. You can sculpt and scratch build and they all come out excellent - you are very talented. Really interested to see how the painted house looks also. You do keep yourself pretty busy with all these projects on the go. Good luck and please do keep providing updates.

Yep, very proper painting job. The thundra style is very nice. I love this range. Polar Fox is really doing great stuff.

Cheers folks!

jchaos: I do love 6mm armies, nothing quite compares with them visually and I've painted quite a few Napoleonics for people over the last year. The pikemen are now painted and varnished...... just the bases to sort out. I've got some Sarmatian cataphracts somewhere, which might make quite a nice Dogs of War unit..... Khusrow's Karaphracts perhaps just to give them a bit of Indo-Iranian authenticity?

adamsg01: Yep, far too much going on at once, but I'm a bit of a magpie and want to be collecting and working on everything at the same time. No sense making things practical eh?

marell: Loving the Polar Fox stuff at the moment, just received my Skeleton army and really must start on it at some point. It only took me a year to start working on the Goblins.

I've managed to get a bit more done on the Wizard sculpt, getting there but the arms are a bit long - fortunately they don't stand out too much when it's not right up in your face. Hope you like.

Thanks for looking.

That is a really beauty... yes I think it has all the feeling of GW arab range. And also I could say quiality ...
Indeed it is a good work.

Iranian cataphracts... oh yes you should share the pictures!
