Heh, my opponents Dark Angel fleet is flying the Dark Angels green colours so this approach is interesting.

I like the additions to the Helios Cruiser. Not an obvious colour scheme to pick but certainly cool though personally I would add a deeper shade to it I think.

Ecclesiarch fleet a thing o beauty and no mistake. The use of chaos ship adds a suggestion of antiquity to it and the scheme is real nice too... Where are the little gold d'sparils from?

Oh and good work on the Astartes. Damn fine collection. Big too! Must have cost some sourcing it all or are there prints/recasts in there..?
Lol the size of those "stormbirds" they are those eagle dropships from vanguard right? I knew I said they look like they were too big but geez. They're originally intended as TH proxies! Now I see them on a base it's pushing it even for stormbirds. But yeah you bought them so you're stuck with them... I thought the grimdarkbits thunderhawks were too big at 7-8mm but I recently found out that the FW ones were around 10mm what are these again 14-15mm? Madness... Still nice detail...

And I take it that's pre heresy da? Hence the lack of green... ;)

Statues are from Shapeways. Saw a larger version of the saint and asked the sculptor to make some smaller versions:
https://www.shapeways.com/product/FXD9ABLS4/imperial-saints-12mm-and-9mm-bfg-accessories?optionId=178144214&li=ostatus

Dark Angels are all original ships, Been collecting them for a long time. Dark Angels are black. An artist screwed up and painted them green on one of the Epic box sets and the false Dark Angels were green forever more... :D Certainly not going to repaint my original 150+ figure and vehicle BLACK Dark Angels army just because an artist screwed up. :P to GW for that little retcon.

Yes the Stormbird are Eagles from Vanguard, and yes they are huge, but I really dislike the FW versions with the weird extra diagonal wings. Recently found these on Shapeways and will be using them for T-hawks: https://www.shapeways.com/product/CNPBKNQQ8/bfg-voidhawk-gunships-x16?optionId=40875179&li=ostatus

For the Helios cruiser color, check the group shot with the Gothic fleet ships. Flash gets a little too close on the single ship pics and washes out the color a bit. Have been developing this Ecclisiarchal red for a while. With so many "red" army colors in 40K I wanted to differentiate the Ecclisiarchy color for the rest of them. Base color is Privateer P3 Sanguine Highlight. Could start with the Sanguine Base for deeper starting shades. Might try it for the next ships.

Hmm, today I commented on Reddit on a ship and he also mentioned the flash.

Try taking pictures without a flash. A good bright second lamp would already be sufficient tbh.

The idea of doing a 'different' red is ofcourse really good. And maybe the non-flash picture will tell different.
But maybe not a different basecoat but a darker mixed glaze of the basecoat on the areas not seeing highlights. I think a bit more contract will help to make them more 'poppin'.

heh heh on that Dark Angels colour. Cypher will agree. ;)

Don't usually shoot without flash in that room because the daylight fluorescent lighting makes for wierd colors sometimes.

Here are a couple of shots in full afternoon sun.

sunlight seems to be a bit of a truer representation then?

yup. the da green instead-of-proper-black thing has bugged me for nigh on three decades now too... So I know how you feel... ;)

and yeah the old fw th's indeed looked odd.
These gdb's voidhaks are the th's I've used throughout my fleets. I can vouch for those, they're good models. easily on par with gw's fighters and bombers in level of detail but crisper due to being print at that scale, not cast.

The desired color is in the carmine to crimson range, a darker red with a slight hint of purple. Have picked up quite a few hobby paint colors (Vallejo, GW, Reaper, P3), but have not found one I like yet. Looking at Wikipedia: Shades of Red, carmine has has an interesting characteristic: "The color carmine is a saturated red. In its pigment form it mostly contains the red light with wavelengths longer than 600 nm, i.e. it is close to the extreme spectral red. This places it far beyond standard gamuts (both RGB and CMYK), and its given RGB value is a poor approximation only." So it looks like I will never get a good approximation when displayed on a computer monitor.

Color is always dependent on the combination of pigment color and light color. The fall afternoon sunlight is a bit warmer and redder, so the ships lose a bit on the purple side of the color. Still like the color in the group shot best.

Since I have two battlecruisers, I need some regular cruisers and perhaps some escorts to support them, so will keep playing with the colors until I get it "right". Won't paint the battleship until I get it right...

Actually have the Voidhawks somewhat painted, just had not taken any pics:

Thanks! Both of the cruisers are Sisters ships. Chaos hull based one is a Cardinal class heavy cruiser from BFGXR.

$18 for 8 statues is not THAT bad, especially for Shapeways stuff at their highest resolution prints. Definitely ordered these with other Shapeways pieces to spread the shipping cost around. They get spread out over 5-6 ships too, so they go a long way.

A Dominator cruiser at the same resolution is $107: https://www.shapeways.com/product/ZA9ZEGMWK/crucero-pesado-clase-dominion?optionId=70797371&li=shops

Sure can't get much in the way of BFG stuff on eBay for $18... :D

Have a couple of updates...

Great White Fleet cruisers and escorts  for the previously shown Emperor battleship. They might need a little more color.

Imperial, civilian and Rogue Trader (blue) transports.

Additional Ministorum/Sororitas cruisers, escorts and a few transports WIP. The ship color in the pic does not even remotely look like the color on the ships, should be much redder instead of purple. Will try sunlight pics in the morning. Evidently the bit about carmine colors being far beyond monitor color gamut range is true...
