Well this might just bugger my whole BFG rules project  :P

But if true, I think it would probably be worth it for some new official models and rules.

This might be the best thing go has done in ages, hoping this is dealt with properly, no dumbing down of rules or changes of scale
Might make my third battle group a bit bigger and cheaper at the same time. Please gw, all I want for Christmas is a plastic endeavour......
Also every other specialist game, this site might get a bit busy soon :)

knowing the way games workshop is doing things currently we'll probably see the following for BFG:

plastic kits for each size of ship that will have the parts to make any of the classes of the given size, so for example - Imperial battleship, Imperial grand cruiser, Imperial cruiser, imperial light cruiser, Imperial frigates

Frigates will probably be the only box to contain more than one ship

cheapst set will probably cost £25, a mortgage, your first born child and a suitable offering to cthulhu

Most likely models in another scale. Rules and story to make all old models obsolete..

Will believe it when I see it!

Call me a cynic, but I can't get behind any notion of GW doing anything that would lead anyone to buying something not Space/Sig Marine centric.

And given their pricing these days, would it be value for money? Sorry guys, but other space combat games out now give vastly more bang for the buck, and we can proxy those ships.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT this to be true...to a point I even need it! ;D

Exciting news! Though, based on that announcement I'm guessing that we will be lucky to see a release before the end of next year.

A rumour elsewhere suggests not to expect anything a good year or three

They won't do this. That is a HUGE part of what made dreadfleet FAIL so miserable, it was unusable with Man-o-War. Plus if FW still have their master moulds, they can start using those immediately upon BFG rerelease.

I wonder if they'll re-release the rules, or just post FAQ 2010 on their site?  It was done at their request, after all.

nah it'll be a new rule set so you have to buy the new rule book for like £50

how else will poor games workshop make ends meet?

I bet they will revamp the rules to streamline everything and make the new game a little bit easier and faster to play. I don't think we will see big colorful rule books with hundreds of pages. I guess it will be a lot more like AoS. I totally hope for newly designed minis with a lot of options for customization. And I wouldn't be surprised if they scale the overall sizes down to keep the prize low and fill the boxes with more stuff at the same time. I could imagine Battleships in the size of a cruiser for example.

I have it from my local GW manager that the plan is one-off box set releases in the style of space-hulk to see how well they sell

if it goes well they'll expand the ranges and continue production, they also plan on doing some advertising/marketing to get interest up

so it really depends on the reaction on release

on a plus note they plan on using a lot of fan feed-back for the revamp

Ok, I knew a little bit about Star Wars Armada but I never saw any of the Star Wars Armada or X-Wing models op close. When I visited a FL gaming store yesterday it was the first time that I had one of the X-Wing Models in my hands. And I have to say, wow these miniatures are amazing. I never noticed how huge the ships actually are. And all the ships are completely painted in an ultra-high quality. Admitted, the models are not cheap. The prizes range from 15$ for an X-Wing size model to 100$ for an imperial corvette. But considering the immense size of the models, the high details and that every ship is completely assembled and pro-painted, the prices are more than reasonable.

That leads me to some questions regarding the upcoming relaunch of the Specialist Games and possibly BFG.
Would you like a shift in scale towards bigger ship models? I guess a 10 inch + imperial battleship would be amazing.

How about preassembled and prepainted models? Yes, building and painting is fun. But getting game ready professional painted models is nice too. To be honest. I could never reach the visual quality of a painted X-Wing model on my own.

I guess I would give it a try. At the moment I’m actually thinking about buying some X-Wing ships, just because they look amazing.
