Bretonnia - How do you play it?
« on: October 08, 2015, 11:54:47 AM »
Hi Bretonnia players!
I was just wondering how other people usually "build" their armies and what strategy they usually use.
So I have 3 questions that I'd like to ask you guys:

1. Do you use the "classic" list or the one from Trial Armies Compendium 2009?
2. Do you prefer Cavalry-hard army (maxing the # of knights) or Infantry-hard army (maxing the number of disposable cannon-food)?
3. Do you start with defensive strategy or start aggressively from the beginnig?

So far, I have an impression that most people prefer more knights over foot soldiers. But maybe, I'm wrong. So please enlighten me.  8)

For me, the answers are following:
1) Tournament list (with reliquae and pegassus knights).
2) I definitely prefer having a lot of infantry to sacrifice. On 2000 points, I usually have Break Point of 4.
3) I'd probably define my style as dynamically defensive. I try to push infantry to the front quickly (if the commands are successful) and hide the knights behind them, waiting for the right moment to strike.

1) original
2) well balanced towards BP of 3 or 4
3) chicken-knights !     (use the infantry as a "mobie" castle and use well aimed sacrifices to lure attacking enemy in chargerange

Chicken-knights  ;D I love that expression :)
BP 3 or 4 on 2k points is quite a lot of infantry.
I have to adjust my answer here a little - I usually have an extra 100 or 200 points because of the campaign rules.

Thanks for sharing.

I end up with lots of DRAW results on account of winning with not enough points

Hehe  :D Yes, that's dangerous. If you sacrifice too much infantry, you need to keep in mind to kill valuable targets.
In one of the recent games, I had to surround and kill a unit of Arabian Elephants (to get enough points) because I previously fed them with a lot of infantry.  :D

By chicken knight do you mean the Pegasus Knights, or knights that are hiding amongst infantry? :-X

The knights that sit out the tea-break while the poor infantry gets slaughtered. My younghest dubbed my Bretonians the Chicken Knghts WAY before Gerard came up with the pegiknights

Hi all,

Out of a sentimental mood I had a look. The discussion puts a happy happy smile on my face.  :)

In earlier times I always tried to have a good mix of knights and common troops. Maxing out on cavalry was always a bit boring to me.

@Lex: Greetings to A.! And it hurts me a bit that he called them chicken knights! ???  The knights do nothing else than giving their commoners a chance to earn their battle honours!  8)

What abut the new support rules? Do they change the situation for brets?

Greetings,
Gerald

Not so much for the Knights, but the foot gets a little more sturdy
