Battle of Pavia 1525
« on: September 22, 2009, 11:38:50 PM »
Hi,

Some years ago we made the deplyment list of the battle of Pavia (Italian wars) using the WM Empiere stats.

Now it is time to made it again. I look through the WM Medieval lists and I would like to ask for your opinion.

For the French Francisco I army use the French Ordennance list.
For the Spanish-German Marquees of Pescara army use the ¿Italian Condotta? ... mmmh could work but I am not too satisfied.

Any ideas? or comments?

At rickpriestley.com ( http://homepage.ntlworld.com/l.priestley/index_files/Page2756.htm) you can find MAXIMILLIAN IMPERIAL LIST (landsknechts, arquebuses, etc). All army lists you'll find there have official status (at least I think so).

Thanks Kretus.

I check the list and it is ok. I have a couple of questions, but I will try to find them out by myself. So if I can't I will post them here.

best regards

I have made a configuration to play this battle with 1000 points per army.

I am not going to expand this threat with historical background, so I sum up it in a line or two. The French has taken control of Italian territory. Europe can not allow French to have those territories and the sea ports of Italy, so all the mayor forces of Europe made an alliance to attack the frenchs in italian ground.

Pavia: the king Francisco I of France is holding a siege to the city of Pavia. An Austrian-Spanish army aproach the french army to free the siege. This battle represent the battle against the two armies and exclude the siege battle.

Tabletop: The battle takes place inside a walled perimeter of the Mirabello park (large are - all the table). It has two river steam, three main forests, and the castle of Mirabello on the top of a hill.

River steam: All units type could pass through the steam, but it stop their movements, and another command order is needed to move through the river.

Forests: See in the map.

Castle of Mirabelo: Can fortifed 3 units. Treat the whole castel as a tower.

Marsh: see in the map.

deploy zones: see map. Imperial army enters the park of Mirabello through a brech in the walls so it deploys in column (2 units per frontal max).

Mood of the battle: Imperial army advance in column, and is surprise by flank.

Special: because the battle is fought inside a walled perimeter, all Imperial units that goes out the table count as destroy. Not the french because the Gates of Wall perimeter belong to french army, so they have to roll the dice

First turn goes to Imperial army.

Lenght of battle is random numer of turns, use the turn generator.

Yesterday we did the palytesting of Pavia. I am not going to torture you with my english trying to explain you the battle report. It was full of historic flavour, full of fun and powder & pikes!

We enjoy it a lot, but we did not reach to breakpoint and was quite late to going on. So we decide to finish the day 1 of battle. We suppose the sun set, and other day we continue the day 2, with reinforcment of the troops and a new deploy considering the battle lines. Here I give you some shots:

Here is the playtesting 2 of Pavia. An Imperial victory. To summ up king Francisco I (french ordennance) did not protect his artillery when advance it. I make a beginners error do not brigading the cavalry with cannons first. "How arrogance could be a king! and how far seems to be those imperial infantries"

Lannoy's cavlary (imperial gendarmes and cavalry) flanked the Fleurange detachment (swiss pikes and french infantry) destroying the entire force of Fleurange and reaching the breakpoint.

01_turno 1 deployment

02_turno 2_Fleurange and sufflok advance imperial forces of Lannoy do the same

03_turn3_Lannoy cavalry attack fleurange positions

04_turn4_Imperial Arcabusiers-del vasto- and infantry-Pescara- take the woods and french artillery advance meanwhile lannoy is winning in the right flank

04_turn4_King Francisco I know that in the woods are imperials but they are out of range from french artillery

05_turn5_a quick advance of imperial infantry regiment of pescara surprise the french cannons

06_turn5_Meanwhile the lannoy gendarmes and some Lanksknechts destroy the french center battalion, Fleurange and the last of his men awaits to die or be capture

07_turn5_With Fleurange battallion dismised and cannons destroy French army start to retreat. King francisco defeats without making the gendarmes charge
