Basic Imperial Fleet list?

Hi Guys,

Please get me started with basic 1000 and 1500 point Imperial lists. Only requirement is an Emperor battleship in the 1500 point list and no light cruisers (none currently at acceptable level of paint).

Available cruisers:
2 x Mars
1 x Armageddon
3 x Lunar
2 x Tyrant
1 x Dominator
2 x Gothic
1 x Dictator

Swords
Cobras

BFG Original or BFG:R? Or any other considerations? Like do any of the lunars have Nova Cannons?

In a 1500pt list the Emperor is probably enough launch bays.  I'd load up on escorts (5x Swords, 3x Cobras, 3x Cobras, if possible) and that leaves you with points for a mix of four standard cruisers.  That's a fairly normal list and I'd say it doesn't make too big a difference which you pick. 

If you like to combine bombers and torpedoes, remove Swords, use all your Cobras, and use a Mars alongside the Emperor.

I struggle with the Imperial Navy in 1,000pt games so I don't feel qualified to give advice at that level...

Whenever you do get to play, don't forget to form up into squadrons.

3 Lunars by themselves makes for a great squadron. Tyrants and Gothics also go well together. An average of 4-8 Launch Bays is a good rule of thumb. Give these lists a try:

This gives you a smattering of options: some launch bays for air cover, a solid core squadron bristling with weapons power, and a flanking escort squadron that gets an extra +1 Ld bonus for enemy contacts. Good for reloading!

Here, you have two solid gun squadrons. Their massed weapons batteries can drive off Eldar and their lances can make short work of heavily armored targets. Plus, you have seven ships with torpedoes, which is great for the shotgun attack. The frigates enjoy the company of the Emperor for mutual protection.

OR drop a cobra and take the Left Col Shift on the Mars and a Power Ram on the other Lunar.

I did the same thing on my 1500. OOPS. Fixed though now.

This brings you to 1465 pts by my count. My suggestion would be an extra Cobra (bringing the total to 3) and the Assault Boat upgrade on the Emperor class Battleship to bring you to 1500 exactly.
