Warmaster coverage in White Dwarf
« on: December 29, 2014, 09:33:13 PM »
I spent an hour today organizing my large pile of white dwarf magazines I collected over the years (the majority were collected in the early 2000's).

I stumbled across the April 2000 issue (#243 in the US/CAN) which was the release of Warmaster. It featured a whopping 38 pages dedicated to Warmaster including a 2000pt battle report between Rick and Alessio.

Unfortunately the next issue in my collection appears to be Sept #248, which only has a couple of pages dedicated to Warmaster including the Forge World castles.

I'm going to have to go back and pick up the 4 issues I'm missing. Is there anymore battle reports in White Dwarf or was the one and only battle report in issue 243?

If I remember correctly, there is at least one more. I think they use a "normal" great unclean one model in it.

Thanks for the quick response Toon.

I actually managed to locate #247 which was the Orc release with a painting article from Rick.

The other battle report you speak of must be in either #244, #245 or #246.

Toon is right- there is one more battle report, but I think that's it for WM battles in WD.
Kind of sadly, I'm pretty sure WM coverage in White Dwarf ends with a 'looking forward in Warmaster' article, detailing all sorts of future plans and new models to come.
If I get a chance I'll look through my WDs and try and get more details for you- it'll take me until the 6th at the earliest.

Yes issue #248 has the last ever Warmaster article entitled "The Future of Warmaster". Unfortunately the next month saw the release of 6th edition Warhammer which most likely put an end to further Warmaster articles.

Warmaster still shows up in later white dwarfs, but only in the new release sections as the other 6 armies were released. No other articles pop up that I could find.

I guess that's because it had it's own magazine - then those got rolled into the Fanatic/SG magazine as things began the long decline...

I think that one of the reasons GW started fanatic, as WD was going to focus solely on WFB/40K.

After the release of Epic in 2004 there was at least one Warmaster article as they 'focused' on a different Specialist Game every so often. I don't think they managed a whole cycle even unfortunately.
