Pre-Skaven rat swarms
« on: September 23, 2014, 01:43:59 PM »
Does anyone here know of the rat swarms that were released before Skaven were around for Warmaster?
I remember there was a picture of them in one of the Warmaster magazines (pre issue 17), but never much in the way of advertisements. I think they were described as being 'round based', or 'able to fit neatly on a penny' or something like that.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about or has the magazine with them in it can I get a photo (or photo of the photo)?

I acquired a bag of rat swarms in a trade- all the same casting, small (3 can squeeze onto a base) and with 'GW 99' on the back. I didn't think anything odd about them until I got some normal swarms recently- the differences are pretty clear. I vaguely remember the aforementioned Warmaster magazine description, but don't have mine with me to check if that's what I have.

Any help appreciated  :)

I think the rat swarm (circle bases) was release before the skaven army. I think could be part of the orc n goblin stuff in those days.

Then the skaven figures were released and they made a reference of rats in a square bases.

I have no rats in circle bases nor the warmagazine with me, sorry

That is what I know. Did it helps?

That sounds about right, thanks. Good to know I'm not inventing memories  :P

I'll try and take photos sometime soon- both for the catalogue and to confirm what they are.

Apologies for the double post, but here they are- a selection of squeaker swarms showing various sides and surfaces:

It's a bit hard to make much out while it's still bare metal, so I've kept the photo large and just linked to it. One day I'll do some painting and can post clearer photos.

So- are these the 'round-based' rat swarms released before Skaven were around?
Does anyone know if collectors have much interest in these guys?
