Next up is Dundracon, coming up Feb 13-15 in San Ramon (http://www.dundracon.com/).
There is one BFG event on the schedule, and if we brought BFG stuff we could probably get a few games done in the the Open Gaming room. Dave, Greg and I will be there, we just need to decide whether to bring BFG stuff or not.

Dave, Greg and I and probably Reuben are bringing our BFG stuff to Dundracon with plans of getting a game or two in on Saturday night.

BFG at Dundracon!

We did manage to get a game in on Sat night (from 8:00pm-3:00am!). 2000 points of Death Guard vs a Space Marine fleet with a couple of Imperial Dominators. Reuben came up with the objective: get as many boarding parties onto the "Death Star" (see pics) as possible during the game.

Death Guard Fleet
Despoiler
Repulsive
Styx
Slaughter
2 x Murder
6 x Iconoclast

DG fleet roars onto the table (AAF) and dumps 16 Deathclaws and 6 boarding torpedoes, all of which make it to the station giving us good lead.

Pic is about turn 3 after a very bad  orders phase in which neither the Despoiler or Styx are able to reload

Then things got hairy! Near the end of the game. One Slaughter and one Murder and a couple of the Iconos are dead. Really came down to an ordnance battle and the DG were hurting badly at the end of the game, but we managed to get 32 boarding parties (mostly Chaos Marines) onto the station compared to 22 for the Marines. Was a vicious battle but everyone had fun. Inexperience hurts: I should have pumped out a bunch of bombers instead of Deathclaws to try to damage the Imperial ships.

The glorious Iconoclast squadron. Started with six but managed to end the game with three left after being in the thick of things.

Another BFG game that was in the program and I tried to get into but failed. Should have gotten the names of the guys running it. Mostly beginners playing.

Hey all, just found this forum recently and I'm delighted to find more bfg players in the Sacto area.  My brother and I are bfg fanatics and have been trying to cultivate our own group.  I play mainly Orks, with easily 5k+ points, my brother plays primarily Chaos with at least 8k in his collection.  We have a similar size of Imperial ships, 3k-4k of Eldar, and half a handful of SM and Tau ships.

Anyone looking to meet up in the Sacramento area for some games?

I don't have a lot of free time, i am based in citrus heights and would be interested in getting a game together sometime. Do you and your brother play with the updated fleetlists from afterimagedan starship blog? I won't lie i don't really have a handle on the rules we recently just started getting groups together to game, i mostly dabble in the modeling and resin casting side of the hobbie. I am never opposed to venting orks into space though.

We've been away from the game for a good amount of time, just started playing the 2010 version.  I'll take a look at the starship blog.

Hey gang, let's get this thing started again!

I will be running a BFG game at KublaCon (near the SF airport) this Friday at 4pm.

Shall we try to set up a game day in Vacaville sometime in June?

I might be able to drag a number of players down for a gameday in Vacaville.  We normally meet up on Saturdays, let me know when and I'll put the word out.  I'll need to know a bit in advance to clear as many peoples schedules as possible of course, but I'm looking forward to it.

Hey folks, lets look at Saturdays June 20 and June 27 and possibly the the Sundays June 21 and June 28 as some of the guys can't make it on Saturdays due to work. Everyone please post up the dates you can make it to Vacaville for a BFG day.

I know i can bring at least myself and one other player on any sunday, potentially a few more.  It would be good for my local BFG players to agree on rules ahead of time, we play to 2010 FAQ rules, any adjustments on that just let me know.

Ran a game at KublaCon last Friday. We had signups for eight players, so I opted for 2000 points per side. As is fairly normal only four players showed up, but three of them had played before so we kept it at 2000 points. We played Planetary assault, with my Nurgle fleet attempting to assault the planet.

Death Guard
Terminus Est
Retaliator Grand Cruiser
Styx
Desastation
2 x Murder
Carnage
Slaughter
6 x Iconoclast
8 x Transports

Imperials
Emperor
Mars
Armageddon
Lunar
Tyrant
Dominator
Gothic
Dictator
6 x Sword
5 x Cobra
5 x Planetary Defense Platforms

Per the scenario rules, Imperials could set up in the gravity well of the defended planet or on patrol. They opted for a battlecruiser and four cruisers on patrol and rolled badly, allowing the Chaos players to set up one battlecruiser and one cruiser anywhere in the Imperial deployment zone.

Imperial start (Death Star is the "planet")

Chaos deployed the wayward cruisers nearest the Chaos deployment zone facing away from the Chaos fleet.
Chaos turn one: chasing (and blasting) the cruisers:

Imperial turn one. Torpedoes fired from both sides

Chaos turn 2. Battlecruiser is now a drifting hulk and the other cruiser has blown up.

Turn 3. Fleets engage at close range

Turn 4. Two more Imperial cruisers are destroyed and explode. Terminus Est and escorting cruiser launch fighters (to take out Imp bombers from from Emperor) and assault claws at the Emperor. After a large number of hit and run attacks, the Emperor has damaged engines, prow and dorsal weapons and port weapons leaving it only starboard weapons. At this point the Imperials conceded the battle. In addition to the lost battlecruiser and three cruisers, two more of the Imperials cruisers were crippled and only one Sword and two Cobras remained. Chaos losses were five Iconlclasts and one transport. Slaughter and one Murder were crippled. Did not recover the Terminus Est sheet, but I think it had four or five damage. Chaos made very good use of lock on orders, although reloading ordnance was a problem for all but Terminus Est. Everyone was a bit rusty on the rules, which probably led to tactical mistakes on the Imperial side. Chaos tactics were just move and shoot...We did use all my blast markers so I will need to get a few more...

Any updates on that potential meetup?  I'm hoping the dice will perform better than they have for me lately in the local 7 player campaign we've been running, absolutely dismal luck to the point where my local defense force of a cruiser and  escorts had to run from 3 hostile escorts after losing 2 hits and 6 escorts while only inflicting 1 casualty....

Hi Goth,

Welcome to the greater bay area. Looks like everyone is too busy with summer stuff to do any BFG.
BFG at Pacificon is a possibility, but there is another con (Celesticon) that weekend that some people seem to favor. Don't know what I am doing that weekend yet.
