Hello people
« on: December 15, 2013, 07:20:19 PM »
Hi there!

Me and my firends and some old and new friends are considering picking up again (or in some cases starting fresh) with BFG.

My question is simple but i guess the answer might not be...
What should we use as a rule set?

I got the two books since back in the days but I expect much has happened since then are there any good compilations of the available rules or perhaps a general consensus pointing to a community created rule set?

Regards

Check this out!

Got all the rules official and non official in place.

The fan made BFG:Revised is still in the works.

Most people use standard rules + faq2010 with the addendum every group tends to drop, change, add rules as they seem best fit.
In terms of house rules Eldar MMS has gained a foothold with a lot of people in the last few years but I still advice you to start with all standard rules as that might be easiest with other groups.

I found the link before, what I was really after was the rest of your answer :)

Is the revised rules in a playable and compiled state or should I steer the group away from them for now?

*edit* The new Eldar rules seem nice, and should help the fleet from being to "one dimensional" so they would make it in atleast.

*edit again* :P seems most of the revised stuff are quite up to par so I guess that will be the basis for the  campaign...

The newer wave of BFG:R is based on the standard rules + FAQ 2010. BFG:R is primarily new fleet lists.

Out of pure curiosity (I know this is probably the wrong place to ask)

Why would a styx space marine venerable battle barge converted for thunderhawks round its launch bays up while a chaos space marine styx converted for them round them down? Isn't that the sort of irregularities that gets fixed in community "patches"

ofc that must be it :)

Or maybe it it will be changed since chaos fleets is still listed as "In Process" on the BFG: Revisited page?

*edit* Hmm I was looking at an old blog post, looks like they are done... a pity I would never use a Styx with only two lauchbays especially not when I know it could go with double that. Is there any way of bringing old (perhaps omissions) up for voting (or maybe it has been discussed at length and I am getting in way over my head here, being new and all.)

I might also point out that the last text bit on demonships in the pdf ends up behind the fluff text box

Will do!

Just so I can get it of my mind. Has the thunderhawk refit discrepancy ever been discussed as a part of the revision project? (I can mostly find relatively spirited discussion about chaos light cruisers in the thread about chaos)

If it hasn't been discussed (maybe it has and there is a perfectly good reason for it) is there any chance of getting a fix in before the next revision? Which from what I understand would be a long time away. I just dislike illogical discrepancies and since it would only affect the styx which is expensive and wants to stay far away I don't know a balance reason for it)

The Khorne battle ship is more expensive in the Khorne list...
