[BFG] currently Chaos test
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:00:39 PM »
for a while now i have been wondering what to do with my bfg spares, all those unused lances/flight decks etc
on my last hobby night i had a lance battery sitting next to a sword and it sparked an idea, with a bit of cutting and gluing maybe i could make an escort?

originally i had hoped to just use my spares and nothing else but engines were needed as was some more length
after a bit of messing about with the bits above i got this.

its obviously still very wip with just blu tac holding it together but what do people think? i need to detail the plain plasticard spine and am considering some form of shielding for the engines, something similar to the falchion.
here are some scale pics

also considering different armaments for it

no they are not going to count as nova cannons lol.
my ideas for the ship rules wise are the dreaded 2 hit point escort, although its only a little bit longer than the sword or falchion it is considerably bulkier and i havent finished on it yet. for weapons i am going for a single cruiser weapon pods worth of weaponry that can only fire to the front so 2 lances, 6 wb, 1 lb with maybe 3 wb. i think 4 torpedoes is equivalent to wb 6 or 2 lances but am unsure as to how i would model them as of yet.

let the comments/criticism begin :)

Wow, really cool. Very original too! :) Now add some more details between the prow and the back of the ship. :)

thanks for the comments, this has taken a back seat while i worked on an enforcer, its nearly finished now

(didnt dry fit everything and the wings dont fit now due to the launchbays being in the way a bit)
once it is done i will try to get back to the heavy escorts

bit untidy due to the wings being about 5 or 6mm lower than standard but whos going to see it upside down?

eventually got the enforcer painted along with a few extras, entered them in gothicomp last year

anyway........
having recently painted some inquisitor 54mm bases using my eventual nid scheme i decided more nids were needed. although 40k nids are a long way off for me, back in 2009 i did a few mock ups of some nid ships for bfg
kraken

vanguard drone

escort drone

tail

until last a week or two ago thats how they had stayed. managed to be quite productive and bar some minor greenstuffing they are nearly ready for paint

kraken with massive claws

Vanguard drone with feeder tentacles

Escort drone with pyro acid batteries

grabbed the nearest escort i could find (one of my brother-in-laws falchions) for a quick scale shot

hoping to get these finished for the ammobunkers OMAM and also gothicomp

awesome nid conversions, consider the ideas stolen for my tyranid buddy  :P
Nova Cannons are for these sissies who as a kid too preferred to throw stones at the others from a safe distance rather than closing in and get into a real fight ;D

Very nice ships and great work!

I used coke sheet to magnetise the other parts, as I posted here:

i went for the less finger shredding option of paper clips :)
work continues on the Golden Fool, have now added paperclips to a few weapon options and finished greenstuffing gaps (hate working with metals :( ) finally got a chance to get it undercoated as well

this allows for any configuration. if i find it bothers me then the prow might get magnetised as well for non torpedo ships although that just seems a bit too far :)
