How do Dreadclaws get their cargo aboard the enemy ship?
« on: September 19, 2013, 08:35:33 PM »
So the Dreadclaws are apparently also used in ship-to-ship combat, but it left me to wonder...how do the marines enter the ship? I mean, a Dreadclaw attaches itself to the ship, and then what? With these ships being kilometers big, I can imagine the armor being meters thick, how can a Dreadclaw break that with mere...claws?

I always wondered that including the fact that they were retu=ired because the mechanized failed alot during landing the mechanism wouldn't lower or raise the cabin

I read they were retired because the machine spirit kept killing everyone...

It can't.... so it uses a ring of uber-high-tech cutting beam thingies* instead.

The Dreadclaw assault craft were also much feared, carrying contingents of fanatical and crazed Choas devotees, or even renegade Space Marines of the Traitor Legions. Using ancient phase-field generator technology, the Dreadclaws were able to burn through the thickests hull in minutes, deployed their raiding parties before any organised defence could be mustered.
In case you're wondering, the imperial "Shark" is described as using a load of melta charges.

*Not a technical term.  ;)

Riiiight... So why can't we just point them at the plasma drive and push the on-switch?

That's where the '6' roll comes in  ;).
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

That's damage done by the boarding party, not the pod itself :P

that board is seriously cool

yeah dread claws just melt their way through, imperium stopped using them but maybe som chaos forge world has figured out how to get them working properly

i suppose the reason they don't just melt their way to the plasma core is because A. that will be right in the heart of the ship B. to melt through to that much ship you'd need alot of power C. thats kinda what torpedos are for
theres no such thing as over kill, its just making sure

If they can melt through armour that is metres thick and hard enough to withstand ship-grade weapons, then the flimsy decking in between shouldn't be an issue. And who cares if you're in the middle of the ship, if the plasma core goes up then that ship is toast!

Sometimes you just gotta hit the "I believe" button, Islacrusez. If you think about it too much, questions like "If they can teleport dudes in complicated armored suits, why don't they just teleport thermonuclear bombs onto the other ships as they pass?" get in the way.  ;)

oh, and that board/diorama is freakin' cool.

Dreadclaws were withdrawn from Imperial use as the Heresy hit due to the massive rise in their accident rate amongst loyalist forces, often attributed to their extremely advanced machine-spirit ai, which has been described as being more intelligent than a land raider or T-hawk.

Yeah but sometimes it just takes too much effort to maintain the wilful suspension of disbelief, and it all goes to hell from there. Have you heard their BS about why you can't have torps on the broadside?
