Markers (custom made)
« on: September 05, 2013, 05:31:34 PM »
Hi guys,
I've made some blast markers and orders markers also. I want to post them here for your benefit.
Enjoy!

Cool, how do those blast markers compare to the original?
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

No offence, but the order markers seem to have some wrong symbols?

All Ahead Full, Lock on and Brace for Impact are nice and clear.
And I get 'Full stop' instead of burn retros, that works.

But why is Come to New heading the recycling symbol? Or is that meant to be Reload Ordnance?

And what is that Flag? It's obviously either new heading or reload, but doesn't really represent either intuitively?

My recommendation would be an Arrow describing an S curve for CtnH and a row of three bullets with a + symbol for reload.

The blast markers are neat though :)

I suspect the recycle triangle is reloading. The flag would then be CTNH, but agreed that it's not clear.

C'mon guys it's not that hard :)
Lock on - aim symbol
brace for impact - exclamation mark + shield + blast
CTNH - flag (similar to strategic games when u flag go- to point for units)
all ahead - 3 arrows
burn retros - stop + arrow with horizontal brick
reload - recycle symbol + triangle

That's ok I'm not offended. I've made those for my personal use so i used slightly different symbols than original.

If u print those as they are than:
orders circles are 3.7 cm wide
blast markers are squares 2.8x2.8 cm
 and need to be cutted.

If it works for you, that's cool. I still don't think CTNH is intuitive. Flag + diagonal b+y stripes to me mean "Watch out, danger!", which I'd associate more with Stopping, bracing or possibly reloading dangerous explosive things.

And while the recycling symbol works...it just creates the silly image for me of ships having torpedoes on a bungee line to catch and refill them. But the only actual problem I have with it is that it's the only symbol that seems to represent a change of direction somehow, meaning it makes a better candidate for CTNH than the flag for people trying to guess.

Now that I think about it, y'know what it says? MINEFIELD.

Thanks for the motto that'll be really useful! Don't know why I haven't done this before. I really need to get on to making some of the other counters in BFG rather then a peace of torn paper in an asteroid field! :)
