I prefer the Despoiler as VBB because is IMHO te best Battleship of the game for an ordnance-based fleet.

For an assault fleet I choose the Sedittio for the massive damage of the multiple bombardment cannons.

I don't really like using Battleships with lances or novas because I think is against the background. Only when I play with my Space Wolves fleet (unoficial), then I sometimes play my captured Mars BC.

;)

PD.: Horizon, why the escorts in 3 or 5 better than 4 & 4?

Uneven squadrons are usually preferred due to the way victory points work. If you destroy 2/3 instead 2/4 you give up less VP and typically the difference between 3 and 4 or 5 and 6 isnt worth the VP lost. Its also why I like big but... squads, a squad of 5 can take a couple losses and still have a good output giving you the option of sticking around and fighting or bugging out and denying VP's.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

I've never thought about it. I'll try in my next game.  ;)

I'll try the odd numbers in escorts for my imperial fleet too.

Venerable Despoiler Battleship (Replace prow lances with boarding torps) 435
Master of the Fleet 50
2x Strike Cruiser with Extra Shield and Torpedoes 320
2x Strike Cruiser with Extra Shield 320
2x Hunter and 1x Gladius 125
2x Hunter and 1x Gladius 125
2x Hunter and 1x Gladius 125
1500

How does that look?

Very similar to mine, I like it.  :D

But I prefer the pure-concept fleets.

If there's a Despoiler in the fleet I equip all my SC with Launch Bays to attack with a big wave of T-Hawks. The other option is all ships with boarding torps, Despoiler included. I usually mix normal T-Hawk's with Anihilator ones.

When I choose the assault fleet, my flag ship is the Sedditio and all the SC with bombardment cannons to punish enemy ships before ship-to-ship boardings.

I like the squadrons but try to make them bigger if you play with more points. A good tactic is combine torps. attacks from the escorts with T-hawks, then you force the enemy to focus their turrets to one type of ordnance and the other type have a free way to attack.
