proxy ideas: High elf
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:48:58 PM »
As many of you know, since GW stopped producing 10mm figures, I have started making lists that map warmaster troop types to miniatures that are widely available today and posted them on my blog.

for the High Elves here is my list and feel free to either send comments on my blog, or use this thread to suggest improvements, alternatives etc

Does anyone know if the Kallistra High Elves are noticeably larger compared with GW ones?

Yes.

When side by side the Pendraken / Kallistra elves are a bit taller (even with the tall helms on the GW figures) they are also quite a bit broader.  I can only get 4 Pendraken Elves on a 40mm base, compared with 6 GW. Even if the Kallistra are closer together with being on a strip, then they won't get 6 in.

Once on the table then the difference is probably less noticeable.

Ah - just realised I should have said - I am particularly concerned with the High Elf Cavalry compared with Silver Helms!  How do they compare?

Pendraken and GW Spears

Pendraken and GW Knights

From a different angle.

The Pendraken figures are nice, but are very different from the GW ones. The Pendraken ones are a fair bit bigger, both taller and bulk wise - they are also quite different style wise.

Ah! Thank you very much!

Those seem to be very different to the current sculpts:
http://www.kallistra.co.uk/images/products/136/1336657966-404a.jpg

But if those Pendraken ones were the basis for them then yes, they do seem to be too large to stand side by side. =-<

I was intending to use Silver Helms as Knights of Dol Amroth in a Gondor list, with the Kallistra cavalry as normal mounted warriors of Gondor / Minas Tirith.

A lot of the Kallistra figures have been converted from the Pendraken ones.

I think those Kallistra ones are based on some different Pendraken figures - perhaps these ones http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FE11-p5117/

I would use the Pendraken / Kallistra figures as the elites as they are bigger

Magister Militum's High Elf range is expanding nicely:

Giant Eagles (although why the link says "wolves"...)
http://www.magistermilitum.com/scale/10-mm/fog5-giant-wolves-11593.html

Spearmen (although why the link says "swordsmen"...)
http://www.magistermilitum.com/scale/10-mm/fef4-elven-armoured-swordsmen.html

I think they are also planning a Character pack, as well as Chariots and Bolt Throwers, so a proxy High Elf army will be easily do-able soon? The only thing missing will be a Dragon Rider.

OK - so - High Elves are an easier to find army but - gosh look at these gorgeous models.  Not the Sigmarites I mean but the "Aetherwings"

I don't think I could ask for a better replacement for the cludgy old metal models for Giant Eagles!

Has Magister Militum's High Elf range expanded recently? I've just noticed that Bolt Throwers and Chariots are now listed on their webpage. I'm pretty sure they weren't there the last time I looked a few days ago.

No photos though unfortunately.
