If you are going to dun a Dauntless, you really should have some escorts with it.

A BB and a GC does seem excessive in only 1000 pts

So perhaps it would be an idea to swap the Battleship for a Upgraded Tyrant, swap the Daunltess for another Tyratn, gothic or lunar and and a squadron of 3 Cobras?

In BFG:R I think you need three cruisers to get a battleship. The grand cruisers do not count for this purpose.

I'm using the feet lists off GW. I'm now thinking of this list.
Retribution/Apocalypse (undecided on whichyet) 365pts with fleet admiral 50pts

Do you think this would be any good or would it better to swap out either the battleship/grand cruiser for another cruiser and escorts/upgrading the dauntless to something else, I drop the the grand cruiser it may be an idea to go for a Apocalypse instead of a Retribution and go for the solar list, using falcions escorts and possibly a marine strike cruiser?

the Bastion Fleet list in BFG:R and in the GW original Bastion list have this:
Grand Cruisers do not count towards the battleship.

So Zarathustra, you need one regular cruiser to get to that fleet.

One thing Zarathustra: the official Retribution is 345pts (the GW pdf missed one location to change the value. The Emperor is 365. Check FAQ2010 (and older ones as well).

That is 20pts left. Drop the Lunar 200pts left.
Drop escorts 265pts left.

Add two Dauntless (to a total of 3). Have 45pts spare. 


If you stick with 1000pts it would be much easier to replace the Grand Cruiser with a battle cruiser. Above ~ 1200pts you can fiddle with the Grand Cruiser/Battleship setup.

Just noticed the bit about Grand cuisers :/
I'm tempted to take the retribution and go for a bog standard fleet out of the gothic rule book.
How important would you say having some kind of launch bay capability would be?  If it is not essential I could always swap the Grand cruiser for an overlord if I swapped the sword for a cobra, or a tyrant or gothic and either upgrading my commander or getting more escorts with the points.
If I need fighter support, I would take a dictator, and then be not sure what to use the now 10pts spare I
My retribution is one of my best painted ships, but might it be an idea to drop it?

While big ships are hard to get into a small list, a Retribution, an Exorcist, and three Dauntlesses would make for an impressive amount of focused firepower at 1000 pts and puts two big targets on the table to draw attention away from the light cruisers.

If you're limited to ships you have in hand and have to work with 1-2 plastic cruiser kits though, it might be tough to get both bigger ships in without going to a higher points value game.

As far as I can tell, GW US still has some stock (or more likely are still making limited casts to fill remaining orders) of both Dauntless types.

Doh! Ya drop the Exo for a Dictator. You can play with no carriers but it makes the game quite a bit more challenging.

If I swap the exorcist for a Dictator I could then drop the escorts and upgrade the dauntless to either another lunar or a gothic or Tyrant, not sure which as all three are attractive, a second lunar for it's utililty, the gothic for it's lances and the tyrant for it's sheer firepower. I will probably be against eldar or chaos, possibly imperial or space marines, but I want this list to be an all rounder one.
