BTW clicking on the pics above will take you to photobucket where you can click on the magnifying glass in the lower right corner of the pic (twice) to get full size high res pics.

Ok, I’m floored.  Beautiful in a slowly rotting, lonely kind of way……….  It looks fairly simple in concept, yet rich in all of its variation.  Your choice of color is the icing on a fly covered maggot cake!  Most excellent work, you're inspiring me to try and reach higher levels.  Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it is a pretty simple process. Here is a little tutorial on the puttied texture.

The putty is Magic Sculpt.
Step 1:  Lay out some small balls and snakes of putty in random sizes and at random locations:

Step 2: Press the putty into the piece with a medium to large ball tool to keep it stuck to the piece. A bit of water on the tool helps keep the putty from sticking to the tool:

Step 3: Use a small ball tool to deepen and enlarge the depressions into Nurgly pits in random patterns:

Step 4:  Make a few more... for modular BFG weapons using magnets. Still need to add some of the green balls.

How does that stuff compare with GW / generic "Green Stuff"?

How does that stuff compare with GW / generic "Green Stuff"?

For starters, its MUCH cheaper, around $17 for a full pound of epoxy putty. I find it much easier to use than green stuff, although green stuff will probably hold very fine detail (like 28mm faces) better.

Its a bit softer when being worked so can be pushed around a bit more. It also dries hard, not semi-hard like green stuff. Can be filed, drilled and carved unlike green stuff.

By the way, I just bumped into this epic army again, I know it's a different scale and all, but the models might inspire you somehow. One cool touch are the bones/horns growing out of stuff. Would be cool to see some daemon ships that have some sort of rib cages, with guts coming out of it from below. Or small spikes/horns growing out of various parts of the ship.

Of well, food for thought. :)

Had just been thinking about random horns here and there... Might just have a go at making a bunch of horns out of putty and see about adding them to a few ships.

Made up a few Nurglized (and magnetized) Imperial weapons modules for the Vengeance class grand cruisers and any regular Imperial cruisers or battleships that get converted to serve Nurgle.

Big update. Have more or less finished the second wave, although I spotted a few missed things that still need to be touched up. And I forgot to do the windows...

First off are the escorts and cruisers.
Iconoclasts

Infidels

Idolators

Cruisers

Cruiser glow

And the heavies...

Despoiler (all magnetized)

Replusive

Vengeance class hull (all magnetized)

Heavies glowing

And a couple of fleet shots, although I seem to be missing three Iconoclasts.

Oh..my...god...

By the way, when you mentioned Imperial ships...hmm...now get some Imperial ships and nurglefy them!

Oh, and that stuff you bought at Shapeways, very curious to see what will happen with those! :D
