BFG Proxy List
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:04:38 PM »
Hey guys. The bad news is out but don't forget the good news: there are some awesome ships around that are great and easy to proxy. Let's get a proxy list together with some sweet pictures and recommendations as to what they could be used for!

Tau
The Spartan Games Relthoza look great as Tau ships. I have some and they are quite nice. A little on the large end, but that's how Spartan Games does things.

I'll let you edit your top post, and only provide references. ;)

Brigade Models has decent ships for Imperial Navy, Chaos, and Tyranids.

Shapeways has heresy-era SM Strike Cruisers and various attack craft.

I'm also seeing a lot of potential in the Spartan Dystopian Wars range for Imperial, Chaos and perhaps even Eldar (and Orks of course because Orks can use AAANYTHING).

Not just from the fliers but also the naval ships, of course you'd have to sculpt/convert a lower portion of the hull but that wouldn't be the hardest thing.

At the very least a huge number of very nice looking prows to make use of mixed with engines from other ranges or converted from scratch.

Not too sure how the ship sizes match up though, I know the DW miniatures can be surprisingly large.

Ground Zero Games has some awesome ships. I have two fleets of them and they would work really well for Imperial or Tau fleets.

Federated Stats Europe - Tau
Sa'Vasku - Tyranids
UNSC - Imperial
Scandinavian Federation - Imperial/Chaos

Dan,  when Draxtar gets up and going I'd like to see these ships in person.

Spartan Games do some very nice ships, they are a bit on the large side though, as afterimagedan said.  Actually come to think of it size is something I've never been sure of with some of the Ground Zero Games models, it seems rather hit and miss whether they have a ruler in shot.  If we're trying to assemble a comprehensive list I'd recommend some sort of size indication too.  I've also put some thought into it since yesterday and I think I could have a decent stab at making modular 'not-quite Imperial' ships for casting (though I've never tried casting before, I might get in touch with Trollforged if I can get something to work).

I haven't taken the time yet to take various measurements of the ship classes (mainly length) so I can start making general plans for the adepticon model policy.  Just from memory though I'm thinking that battleships are usually between 3.5 and 4.5 inches long depending on race and ship,   cruisers are generally 2-2.5 inches long and escorts about 1 inch long right?

I have a post about comparison sizes on my blog between GW and GZG ships.

These have been floating around for a while now:

Battleships. Left to right: Full Thrust (NSL), Firestorm Armada (Sorylians), BFG (Chaos), BFG (Eldar), BFG (Tau - FW)

Cruisers. Left to right: Full Thrust (NSL), Firestorm Armada (Sorylians), BFG (Imperial), BFG (Chaos), BFG (Eldar), BFG (Tau - FW)

I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Spartan Games Dindrenzi make for perfect AdMech ships.

Cruisers work for cruisers [duh], frigates for light cruisers, with a bit of 40k'ifying ;) Battleship is a bit too big, but I just hacked away middle section and it works way better now.

Some Wip's on my part: - Gothic and Endurance [When I'm done with those I can make some sort of tutorial on cheaply making various weapon sections for them.]

Aquans, on the other hand, are good Eldar when you add 40k Dark Eldar Raider sails. Photos after I'll make some investments ;)

Plus, Spartan Games Britannian ships, while unexpensive, make for great supply of Imperial prows if you're willing to hack them apart. I surely will be.

Im planning on doing my Necrons using FSA Relthoza at the moment.

Instead of proxying firestorm armada models

We should build an entire fleet with unique model rules for them
Using BFG rules

Thats a great idea. did you have a 40k race in mind for that or were you thinking of adapting the FSA races to BFG rules? (which really shouldnt be too hard come to think of it).

As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."
