BFG:R Voting 51: Advanced Shielding
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:30:50 PM »
OPTION 1
Advanced Shielding: Weapons using the gunnery table suffer a right column shift when firing on a vessel equipped with Advanced Shielding. Lance weaponry firing on this vessel only score a hit on the roll of a 5+.

OPTION 2
Advanced Shielding: Weapons using the gunnery table suffer a right column shift when firing on a vessel equipped with Advanced Shielding. Vessels with Advanced Shielding who are hit by a Lance ignore them on the roll of a 6+.

OPTION 3
Advanced Shielding: Weapons using the gunnery table suffer a right column shift when firing on a vessel equipped with Advanced Shielding. Lances shooting at a ship with Advanced Shielding subtract one from their result.

As a propagator of option 2: option 1 punishes Dark Eldar less than the rest, option 3 punishes Necrons, AWR ships and Eldar shadowhunter lances more than the rest.

Option 2 punishes every firing ship equally ;)

I am assuming that these all remain in effect even if the shields are down due to weapons fire or blast markers/ dust clouds, but this goes away if the ship suffers a shields collapsed critical?
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

How about on option 2 would the 6+ save against lances be replaced by BFI or would the ship get two saves?

Khar will have to answer that most likely! If you want to amend how it works, Khar, let me know and I will add it to the option.

I'd say 2 saves, same as with holofields . No need to diminish value of bracing.

I went for option 1. I don't like the clutter of the extra saves of option 2 (which is weaker than the other 2 options btw, it'd have to be a 5+ save to get parity) and I would rather the slight bump to DE weaponry that option 1 gives over the nerfing of 'bullseye' lances that option 3 gives.

Mind you, I would be quite content to just drop the lance portion of the refit and leave it as simply a RCS for WBs.

Hmm, this is looking pretty neck and neck.
