Tyranid Upgrades

The local GW store has a very nazi owner who is very much against anything homebrew/experimental/not GW approved. When playing tyranids, is it legal to purchase reinforced carapace, extra spore cysts, etc...in regular one off games? If not I am in trouble, because i'm pretty sure he won't allow it.

Armada allows it IIRC. FAQ banned it (bad move BTW, limts sure but banning was bad).

So if one was using BFG "official rules" you can purchase upgrades without your opponents permission, as long as they are bought using the points described in the chart?

Ya, pg 92 of Armada: These refits can be incorporated by capitol ships or individual escorts except where specifically noted otherwise (escorts cant take extra spores or hits etc) for the cost indicated.
