Shadow class cruiser questions. Also Glue!
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:24:56 PM »
Hey, so pretty simple thread today. I just got a second hand Shadow class Cruiser. It's not painted, but it is glued together (incorrectly). I was just wondering if anyone new a relatively inexpensive and easy way to dissolve the glue. It looks like super glue.

Secondly, how exactly do you use the shadow? what are your experiences with it? My inclination is to toss it with 2 Auroras and go to town, but it seems really expensive when I have the solaris, or the aconite.

Third, it came with a huge base. The same one my Custodian uses. I assume it is not supposed to be on a big base like that, but a smaller one, correct?

Last, but not least, I acquired about 30 gun drones, bases and all, and without thinking I mixed the bases together. Now they look the same to me, but I wanted to know if anyone knows of any differences between the two that I should know of.

Thanks folks!

Easy on the glue front.  Buy a cheap bottle of nail varnish remover, one WITH acetone.  Acetone softens plastic and superglue, so use a GLASS container like an empty jam jar, rather than a plastic one.  Pour in enough to cover the cruiser, screw the lid on so the fumes don't escape, and leave it for a day or two.  If it's stuck very firmly it might take longer.

Shadow should have a small base. I really wanted to like the shadow when the game came out but its pretty weak :/. It does do a pretty good job of distracting people until they learn its the escorts that do all the killing :D. With real shields it may do better in mms, but i havent tried one.

The Shadow is metal. Super glue is brittle.  Snap it.

Thanks! I'll try snapping it, but it always makes me nervous to put stress on minis like that, so if I can't, I'll go get some acetone.

I figured it may not measure up, but I'll give it a try in a big game sometime. And thanks for the base info.

If it isn't pinned snapping will work.

Or lay it in a bath of aceton, this disolves some of the glue already. Will remove paint as well.

I snapped it, but the previous owner put so much glue on it I think I'll still have to bathe it.

Just use a modelling knife to lift it off. I do it all the time. Just get the edge in under the glue and a little twist and it flakes off.

I will try, but he's put glue into crevices and things like that, so it may be difficult.

If you soften the glue up you can use a thumb tack or needle to clean out the details.
