Admiral Cneo goes to war - IN Armageddon 2k
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:40:48 AM »
Hi guys,

This is my new project. A Armageddon fleet built around an old Apocalypse...  :P

-Apocalypse BB + Admiral(9) + 1RR - 490
-Armageddon BC - 235
-Mars BC - 260
-Dictator CA - 220
-Dictator CA - 220
-Gothic CA - 180
-Gothic CA - 180
-3 Sword FF - 105
-3 Cobra DD - 90

TOTAL: 1990

The main idea is to represent a WW2 combined arms fleet. Long range firepower with some carriers & torpedoes.

The Lances and Nova cannons (I don't like to deploy more than 2, I think is a bit abusive) of the Apoc; Geddon and Mars may force the enemy to do evasive manuevers, brace for impact or rush to close range (depending of the fleet and tactics).

Dictators, Geddon and Gothics can launch a nice torpedoe salvo whilst bomber squadrons fly to attack the enemy ships.

I'll squadron the Gothics and try to flank the enemy, I've tried this tactic before and they're deadly if they catch a vessel at close range.

The escorts are only to prevent attacks from enemy escorts or deliver the coup de grace to crippled or badly damaged capital ships.

What do you think about the list and the tactic? Right? More guns? More craft?

My main fleet has always been Space Marines so I've been used to look for close range combat and boarding, otherwise my old Imperial Fleet is a typical torpedo massive wave. I've less experience with long range combat and craft raids.

I'd like to read the opinion of more experienced Imperial Admirals.  ;)

Couple things:

Apocalypse (365) Admiral ld9 (100) 2 re-rolls (75) 540 points. Were you meaning to take a ld8 Fleet Admiral or only one re-roll? Both of these would drop you 50 points.

Armageddon was dropped to 235 in the FAQ.

Your very low on weapons so i would swap one of the Gothics for A Dominator using the 10 points saved from the price drop on the Armageddon. Other than that you look ok although Eldar will probably give you some headaches still just due to the lack of long range weapons batteries.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Thanks, it was an Army builder mistake, they counted 2RR for 50 pts, and have the old price of the Geddon.  ::)

Is there an up-to-day version of AB file (2.x or 4.3)for BFG?

About the ships, I'd like to swap the two cruisers, I like the combined power of the cruiser squadrons and a Dominator would be 10 points left (may drop an escort) and another Nova Cannon...3 of them. My game mates will curse me...

What about a pair of Lunars? good batteries and more torpedoes.  ;)

Lunars are always a good, and fluffy, choice. 3 novas in 1.5-2k isnt really all that bad. I had to take on 3 in a 750 game a couple weeks ago now that was a pita :P.

I love Army Builder...but something has mistakes, so I need to check it carefully... :o

Another option may be Tyrants, good full battery broadsides.

Anyway, the list that I'll try is:

-Apocalypse BB + Admiral(9) + 1RR - 490
-Armageddon BC - 235
-Mars BC - 260
-Dictator CA - 220
-Dictator CA - 220
-Lunar CA - 180
-Lunar CA - 180
-3 Firestorm FF - 120
-2 Falchion FF - 70

TOTAL: 1975
[/u]

Now it's time to check it, I've all the cruisers and escorts painted, so I only need to finish the Apoc.  :)

I think I made a mistake, Sword and Cobra are not available to IN, they must be SM ships and are more expensive. I'll swap by Falchions & Firestorms.

It's a pity because they're a bit more expensive, so I only can take 3 Firestorm and 2 Falchion.

I've 25 extra points... what about swap the Lunars by Tyrants, one with 45 cm. batteries (+20)???  ::)

Or you could replace the 3 Firestorms with 4 Falchions (for 6 total). Or you could simply run 6 SM RSV Cobras.

That sounds good, but the problem is I haven't Falchion escorts...I should buy a handful of them...

SM:RSV escorts are quite good and very fluffy for my Armageddon fleet, it gives me an opportunity to paint some different chapter vessels.  ;)

First test today versus Chaos Fleet (Desolator, Repulsive, 2 Carnage, 2 Slaughters, 2 Devastations and 8 escorts) my final list was:

-Apocalypse BB + Admiral(9) + 1RR - 490
-Armageddon BC - 235
-Mars BC - 260
-Dictator CA - 220
-Dictator CA - 220
-Lunar CA - 180
-Lunar CA - 180
-3 Falchion FF - 120
-3 Falchion FF - 120

We weren't able to finish the battle, my friend had to leave. But the battle was mine and I got good feelings with this ships.

The Apoc. was superb, his lances and NC did heavy damage at long range, it forced my enemy to accumulate firepower over him. I used him as a gunship, from the rearguard.

I liked the combination of Geddon and Mars, good firepower and ordnance.

About the Dictators, the more I use  the more I like they. A combined salvo of 12 torpedoes and 8 AC is awesome. Good for the Lunars specially for the torpedo salve, but they need to get close quickly and suffered a lot of damage. I think I've to use they carefully as flanking units or replace they by another cruiser.

And good beginning for the Falchions, are good escort-hunters and their little torpedo salve may be decisive to finish off capital ships.

The main dude now is about the Lunars. Should I keep they or try another cruisers like the Dominator or the Tyrant?

 ;)

If you replace the Lunars then do it with a Dominator/Gothic pair.

Combination of Lances/Batteries and Nova/Torpedoes sounds good.  ;D

Uses for the lunars

As a gun squadron together
As a shield bearer with a dictator. Opponent must shoot at the closest ship in a squadron so in a squadron with the dictator, place them just ahead. 12 torpedoes and 4 ac is decent output.
