[BFG] Legio II Augusta fleet
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:37:34 PM »
Hi there,

After playing with the Imperial Fleet for a longtime, I've started to build the spaceships of my own created loyal Space Marine Chapter: The Legio II Augusta. An Imperial Fists split after the Horus Heresy. They're Imperial Roman themed and like their Templar brothers, Crusaders.

I'm trying to give them an old-style, some of them pre-heresy.

These are my first ships, I'll post more ships later on.

WIP Strike Cruisers:

The Londinium:

The Mediolanum:

The Tarraco:

And my WIP Venerable Battle Barge (counts as a Seditio Opprimere) Imperatoris Pugni:

I used the big turret on the cruisers to represent the single Bombardment Cannon and some Icons to give them more "crusader & fanatic" appearance.

For the BB I put the lance turrets but I'm not sure about replacing it with the original GW Bombardment Cannons (8 of them), or the same turrets than the Cruisers. Replacing the Vengeance prow with the Repulsive one is another option that I'm considering.

I'd like to read your opinions about them.  ;)

I like it, you dont see nearly enough Dauntless based Strike Cruisers imo, especially since v1.0 listed them as Dauntlesses before the Space Marine fleets were created. The Battle Barge is an interesting take, using the grand cruiser as the basis works pretty well here and does lend a hearsy era feeling with the mix of styles.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Like those cute little turrets! Where they from, if you don't mind my asking?

For the Tarraco, I like the bitz but I'd mount it on the "shelf/step/level/whatever" forward and below vs where it is now. Kind looks a bit bobble headed to me. Simply snip those towers off, file it down, and you should be able to mount it perfectly there.

simple but good conversions to give them some variation!
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

Thanks for your comments!!!

In my Legio fluff, they got an important part of the old Imperial Fists fleet when they split, so the older my vessels look the better.  8)

The turrets are from Dark Realm Miniatures drop pods.  ;D

You're right with the big head. I'll work on this cruiser to fit better the skull.

More ships tomorrow.

I love the Epic space marine on the last ship. Very subtle conversions, they almost look like they were meant to be! That's the sign of some truly epic conversion work   :D

I love the Epic space marine on the last ship

More detailed pics of the Battle Barge:

Now side view:

Front view:

Upper view:

Rear view:

And the auxiliar engine:

Now another ship, an ancient deep space scout cruiser (counts as fast light cruiser), the Mercurius:

I'm looking for two small wings to replace the side panels, but I don't know where I could find it.

About the Battle Barge, some questions.

Would you replace the Vengeance prow with the Repulsive one?
And the lance-bombardment cannons with the same that the Strike Cruisers?
My first idea was to build two broadsides of the original BB cannons, but I need 8-10 of them and they're so difficult to find and I would have to buy more BB's to obtain them...  ::)

More ships and news today!  :P

An Ordo Xenos Inquisitorial cruiser, the Ordo Honoris

Detail of the xeno-engines (speed refit for campaign):

There rebuilt Tarraco icon, more integrated in the ship, is its new bridge:

And the new version of the Battle Barge Bombardment Cannon broadside... I think they look more fearsome now, like a cannon that can devastate enemy ships at close range:

Do you like it?? Which of the two version of bombardment cannons would you prefer??

Sorry for the bad pictures... ::)

Hey,
cool stuff, the Mercurius is cool/slick, though I am not sure on the bridge, seems to heavy on it.

the epic marines on the barge is fun.

The new broadsides are cool, keep it.

You have still enough time to paint for GothiComp 2013 by the way ;)
