Shapeways - Tau Freighter/Transport Proxies?
« on: September 03, 2012, 04:25:08 PM »
Might fit in well for someone needing some Tau proxies (they fit the general aesthetics)

Printing in FUD probably isn't for the faint at heart but might be interesting to check out...

Going to sound like a retard, I know it :'(...so what are shapeways? Is someone making these models? If so, how much are you charging? I have a buddy that would buy some for sure.

3D models? That would be pricy...and I guess we don't know the material, huh? White strong and flexible sounds like a bad prawn, not a material... 8)

Laff, Nice

From some of the peoples on the boards that are in the business itself as I understand it they are usually leveraging Fine Ultra Detail (FUD) for printing masters. Others that actually know shit can take it from here :)

Not cheap, hence my notice of "not for the faint of heart". Should of wrote, "not for the faint of pocketbook" :D

Laff's right back ;D No way of knowing if it can be drilled into either, I suppose (for basing). Although the first one in particular is incredibly tau-esque...

Hum the third one struck me as the closest :). Afterimagedan has gotten at least one ship from them (pre hearsy strike cruiser) you might ask him what material he got it in and how it came out.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Hmmm...might be on to something, sig. Has anyone ever bought/owned/fabricated shapeways before? How hard is it to drill into? Can that material hold a standard primer? The GW models are (in my opinion) pretty damn ugly, and despite the costs these are still a lot cheaper.

E&C might have some good thoughts on materials and what you can directly do with them. Afterimagedan has used them in Gothicomp this year so I'd love to hear about his experiences too.

I have shapeways ships that I use for my Space Marine fleet! If you buy the hard and detailed version, they are much like Forgeworld ships and are really ease to work with.

Carcharodon Fleet
Would that be "White Strong and Flexible" or "Black String and Flexible" or one of the detail options (FUD,FD,BD?)

I think that first one is a Babylon 5 freighter.
