How do you transport your ships?
« on: August 27, 2012, 07:04:01 PM »
I've been looking at some storage options lately. Mine are currently stored in a tool box with foam pieces culled from my Army Transport pluck trays, but I'm not too keen on this method. Egg-crate foam in pistol cases is looking like a pretty good alternative right now.

What are the options you guys are using?

Display cabinet from Ikea. Eats up vertical space while minimizing footprint. Here's an article on getting more space out of it http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Customizing_a_Glass_Display_Case_by_AesSedai for additional storage which I've taken further as my scale is much smaller

I've seen that cabinet and it is a nice solution. I think my question should have been "how do you transport your ships" though. I don't want to lug that case around to games...  ;D

LOL. Umm yeah. Mention yet that I've not had my coffee? ;)
In other news, actually reading only the body of the text and NOT the thread title is a bad idea. News at 11...

For my chaos & Tau fleets I've drilled into the bases and glued 3mm rare earth magnets in them. I then took a box file and glued a thin sheet of steel into the bottom. As long as you don't drop the box everything should be fine - just avoid using the longest stems on the bases or your ships might not fit.

Imperials and Orks just go in an A4 reallyusefullbox lined with eggbox foam as the ships are flatter. I have magnetised the escorts though.

Hi guys, just a note to mention I've added some pics and notes of my KR case containing BFG to this thread on Warseer:

Mine's in a bunch of old Sabol Army transport Foam.   I get about 9 Chaos/Imperial cruisers per 1 inch layer and I've got all 3500 points of my Tau in 2 1 inch layers with only a few of the escorts double packed into holes.
