BFG Internet Battle (Turn 5 finished)
« on: March 19, 2012, 02:23:44 PM »
In my (our) blog, we have been updating the progress of making our 2nd game table and when we are done, we are going to hold a battle over the internet.

Here's how we would like it to work....
1. The community (everyone who would like to participate) will be able to choose their fleet on a poll here. by you.
2. When the fleets are chosen, we will allow some time for the community to make a list of 1500pts (restricted by what models we have, of course) and discuss deployment. Any of the fleets we have on the poll, we have at least 2000pts of.
3. We will set up the game based on the community's guidance.
4. We will start the game.

Each turn will be a week long and we will take orders from the community on this thread until Sunday where we will play out the turn (the community's fleet and the enemy fleet) and report it back to you.

Imperial Navy List
Fleet Admiral:50
Retribution:345
Exorcist:265
Mars:260
Lunar:180
Lunar:180
Dauntless:110
Dauntless:110

Chaos List
Warmaster (Desolator) 75
Desolator 300
Acheron 190
Acheron 190
Carnage 1 180
Carnage 2 180
Devastation 1 190
Devastation 2 190
1495

intriguing idea
but how will you keep each side from knowing what the other will do?
will the results of the poll be public?

I am going to have the "community" play against my brother in law who does not browse the forums. The polls will be public on my (our) blog here...

The poll results are pretty clear the the preferred fleet for this game will be Imperial Navy. Now on to step 2, list making. Feel free to chime in with a 1500pt list or ideas for a list right here in this thread. I will be posting a picture of the table set up with scenery afterward and we can then deploy the fleets after you find out the enemy fleet.

Here are the models I have available...
Battleship (magnetized Emperor)
1 Magnetized Grand Cruiser
2 Magnetized Battlecruisers
4 Magnetized Cruisers
2 Lance Dauntless
5 Swords
7 Cobras

List making will last a week or so. Thanks!

So... how off the wall is everyone feeling? Whats everyone's thoughts on how the fleet should operate? Go all out steam roller, long range, mixed, novas? Do we know the other fleet also or is this going to be a surprise? Personally I think a mixed fleet would probably be best, something with a couple ranged carriers then some solid line cruisers and the two Dauntless for speed/maneuverability. Maybe Emp + Vengeance for long range support. Then the two Dauntless of course. For the battle line maybe a pair of Lunars, good at all comers. Then a Mars, for the nova and additional AC/ LR punch, and an admiral would round it out.

Emperor (sharks) 370
Mars 270
Vengeance 230
Lunar 180
Lunar 180
Dauntless 110
Dauntless 110
Admiral 50
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

We did some more setup today. Gavin (your opponent) and he will be playing Chaos. Also, I should mention the preferred rules set we have been using is the BFG:R set so please keep that in mind. Also, after this message, I am going to upload a whole bunch of photos and a video showing the table with scenery and the blocked off deployment zones. We did a few things tonight...

1. We set up scenery using the Spacebuilder app.
2. We determined the scenario by rolling strategy ratings. Chaos won and chose Fleet Engagement.
3. The formations that were chosen (specific to the Fleet Engagement scenario), Chaos chose sphere and IN chose wedge. We marked the deployment zones by dice (green for IN and red for Chaos). In the rectangular area where the IN will be, they must face their ships towards the opposite table edge and the Chaos must be facing the IN's table edge.

Follow the link below to see the map...

AndrewChristlieb, that's a sweet list.

Wedge vs Cross sets up differently than that... The only time setup C is used is wedge vs sphere, wedge vs cross would be setup B. Did Gavin choose sphere? Ill look over the BFG-R rules again I know there are a bit of changes :).

Some of those prices are wrong

BFG-R prices:
Admiral w/rr 125
Retribution 345
Mars w/column shift 275
Dominator 190
Lunar 180
Lunar 180
5 Swords 175
Total 1470

Since both versions currently have a Mars and 2 Lunars this boils down to:

Emp w/fleet admiral vs Ret w/admiral and rr
Vengance vs Dominator

2 dauntless vs 5 swords

Thoughts or inputs anyone?
