Another dreadnought...
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:03:10 AM »
I could not resist the temptation to build a full plastic card  mega-battleship (How Original)

and here are some pictures of the Virtus Imperator
..... I think I suck as a photographer...

final build state unpainted

This is actually the second I built and sold it to a person in Australia.

Sponsons were applied later

and final paintjob with background

AND THE FUN PART

Nothing is said about the actual date on which the Virtus Imperator was built, only that it is incredibly old, not even the Techpriests of Mars know for sure, or at least what they are allowed. If anyone would dare to say what they think, they surely would be accused of heresy, but on the inside they know, the Virtus Imperator is as old as the Emperor itself ... their systems date back to the prehistory of the empire. Everything they say about it is that contact with its crew was lost in the battle for terra many millennia ago. Many centuries later, the old hull of the Virtus Imperator was found by the explorer cruiser "Copernicus" in Millennium 38, floating in a space graveyard near a warp rift in the Gannicus system, where an uninhabitated old forge world had been left hidden. Towed by an entire fleet of auxiliary vessels to the Gothic sector, its refits took 1235 years.

Virtus Imperator Battleship PTS: 650

HITS..................Battleship/16
SHIELDS............4
TURRETS...........5
ARMOR..............5+/6+ prow
SPEED...............15

WEAPONS
Port Weapon batteries 16 @45 cm /left
Starboard Weapon Batteries 16 @45cm /right
Port Lances 4 @45cm / left
Starboard Lances 4 @45cm /right
Port Launch Bays 2 --
Starboard Launch Bays 2--
Dorsal Lances 4 @60cm /left/front/right
Dorsal (or rather prow) Weapon Batteries 6 @60cm /left/front/right
Prow torpedoes 8 /front
Prow Arcane Nova Cannon 1 @30-150cm /front

Special rules:
The Virtus Imperator is a slow and ponderous vessel and cannot use "come to new heading" special order

Arcane nova Cannon: The  Virtus Imperator is equipped with an ancient Nova cannon from the dark age of technology and can be loaded with vortex ammunition, designed to penetrate the planetary crust to the core. The arcane nova cannon has a limited supply of vortex shells and must roll a D6 to determine the number of vortex ammo stored. Vortex ammo does 1D6+1 hits to ships under the center and 1D2 hits to ships under the template,  The Virtus Imperator may choose to fire vortex or normal shells, once all vortex shells are gone, the arcane nova cannon may fire normal ammo throughout the rest of the battle.
In addition, when playing in an Exterminatus scenario, the ship will not loose its prow armament and fitting an armageddon gun is not needed.  Unlike Abbadon's Planet killer, the Virtus Imperator must follow the exterminatus 45cm and 4+roll rules.

Points calculated with Smotherman's formula.
16 hits = 80
4 shields = 40
5 turrets = 25
5+ 6+ armor = 42.5
15 cm speed = 3
32  batteries 45 cm= 96
6 batteries 60 cm = 27
8 lances 45 cm = 88
4 lances 60 cm = 52
4 launch bays = 54
8 torpedoes = 28
1 nova cannon = 37.5
arcane upgrade = 27
Unique vessel charge = 50

TOTAL = 650

Yes, Is a frakin' ubermonster, but not so much. compared to the planet killer seems fairly balanced to me. AND IT'S BIGGER THAN ABADDON'S BABY!!!!  ;D

I would appreciate any feedback and oppinions about balance and credibility on this one

What a ****.

Friggin great build. Is that white all done with plasticard? Impressive.

Statwise: yeah it is hard. I'd add in an unique factor. +50pts. 22wb + 8 lances in a broadside + 4 bombers

Yes, all white is plasticard, bridge is metal spare fron another BB, engines are resin cast.

I find it too hard too but the stats are model driven.
I will add the extra 50 pts for the Unique category...

Thats cool, how long did it take you to model all of that?
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Considering the amount of time and skill involved that actually sound reasonable.

Good lord.... I know some guys who are skilled with resin mold kits... I can hook you up and sell it for something more reasonable, say 50 USD?

That is just beautiful, man!  One of my favorite things is the little sponson turrets on the sides of the prow, just like in a lot of the art.  Wonderful work, I want one or three...

Actually not a bad idea for a line of "gifts" for those people that happen to support your "modeling site" (you got one, right? ;), yes?)
Not tht you'd EVER attempt to profit from GW's IP though.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

F'ng awesome
the prow is a work of art

but why didn't you do two double decked lance-launch bays rather than lance bay and lance-launch bay?
