[BFG] Rogue Trader Fleet
« on: September 06, 2011, 10:08:58 PM »
Hey all, this is to document the construction and painting of my rogue trader fleet.

First of all my first painted freighter

Sorry for the poor pictures, I took them on my phone. Also, as you can see my painting skills aren't up to much.

Hopefully I'll get my light cruiser painted tonight, and maybe a few more freighters.

There's lots more to come.

Hi,
the paintjob is perfect for the rusty/aged look you are aiming for.

What model is it? Looks nice.

Hey, its a Sorylian Frigate from Firestorm Armada. I should have another 2 done by tonight. To be honest I didn't spend long painting it, just 3 colours plus the undercoat.  I've got 6 in total so far, might get a few cruisers to use as heavy freighters.

Well I managed to get another two freighters done, 3 more to go for now. Also made a start on my rogue trader murder class cruiser, hopefully I'll have time tomorrow but I'm going away this weekend so probably not :(

Firestorm armadaplastics do take paint well,  much easier to paint than fw,  different mold release id guess.
Nice work on making them all look old and worn.

If toy magnatise th stands tou could also use the same fleet to play armada.  Its core rules are easy to learn and play over a few hours.

You do have to wash FW resin- but I suggest washing all models, even if you can't easily notice the release agent. If you don't wash it then I can see some problems happening (I have a few second hand models where pain is flaking off due to this- actually a positive as i'm stripping them anyway).

I've actually bought some small magnets to attach to the bases. I've never really looked at the rules for Firestorm Armada, I'll have to have a look at it when I go to get some Sorylian Cruiser (Heavy Freighters)  :)

Actually the Firestorm rules are pretty easy, in bfg there are a lot more special options you have, FA is pretty straight forward (at least everything but the flight-fighter/bomber rules).

I have washed my fw models in warm to hot water,  a few I even let soak over a few days in water and dish soap, and  it doesnt always wash away the  mold release agent they use.
spray paint base coat helped  but brush paint always beaded off.

Ive played a round of firestorm armada and I have the base rule book,  it is a fun and easy game to pick up.  I used my buddies models,  he had enough Directorate ships for both sides to field a battleship, 3 cruisers, and 6 escorts.  That game took about 2 and a half hours.

Well i've been brush painting my Firestorm Armada models and i've not had any problems with the paint coming off.

Since I figured a rogue trader fleet would have a much higher proportion of light cruisers compared to regular cruisers, I need a way of cheaply constructing more Light Cruisers.

Here's one that I chopped up last night. Doesn't look too great but it only took about 3 minutes to remove a section, file each side down and glue it together again.

Since I have all my old ships from the starter set I thought I'd cannibalize a few cruisers and see how they look. Fluff wise I think they're pretty easy to explain.

Rogue Trader comes across hulk in space/buys a reserve ship. Takes it to some xeno or rogue shipyard to be refit as a light cruiser to make it more suited for his purposes, e.g. faster, fewer crew etc.

I should hopefully have another 2 dauntless' in a few days to bring my light cruiser count up to 4. Add that to my rogue trader cruiser and rogue trader murder class and i'll be able to field the two emissarys I ordered  ;D

Your "endeavour" looks pretty good painted up
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

I received 2 more daunless light cruisers so hopefully they'll be painted up shortly. I'm also waiting on 2 tau light cruisers from forgeworld  ;D

Well the forgeworld light cruisers have arrived! So after work it looks like i'll be cleaning them up and assembling them.

I must say i'm very pleased with Forgeworld's customer service. When I first received my cruisers they were slightly miscast. As soon as I contacted them I was sent a whole new pack, so now I have 4 emissary light cruisers, slightly more than I wanted but oh well...

I've been assembling my flagship and I wonder whether I should make it us as a Rogue Trader Cruiser or as another class, such as a Lunar.

Here's another pic of my salvaged Light Cruiser, still not really a great pic though.  :-\

May try running this cruiser as a Carnage rather than a Murder.
