Thanks to one of our local gamers who invited me to a dreadfleet game the other day, I wanted a naval game set in a fantasy world. And boom Uncharted Seas hit me and I started with ordering 2 Starterfleets + Flagships.
I got the package on Thursday and in an (for me) ultra speed painting weekend I finished the iron dwarves starterfleet:

Those will get water bases at some point but I am still testing how to make them look decent so for now no bases. Im working on an imperial ship to test the best way to do them properly.

Sadly I cant control such painting attacks otherwise my Highelfs would be finished right now. :) But I can say that all the freehand work on my Phoenix Guard is done and only the boring parts are still to finish. I do believe I managed a good contender for the inofficial banner contest. :) But we will see...

Those look really nice, I've been looking at dystopian wars lately (same system different setting) and its nice to see what can be done with these little ships.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Wait - how did you get the water looking like that? That's amazing!

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

@Stormwind: Its actually just a lot of drybrushing + a black wash for all the lower areas. :) (From a Regal Blue base over Ultramarines Blue to Enchanted Blue and then some EB+Bleached bone )

The first imperial frigates are now assembled and primed and a little bit of progress has been made with the phoenix guards. Looks like Im back in business. :D

New update incoming. :) Again something different than usual. :D Schnitzelbowl (2 day BB Tournament in Vienna) was last weekend so I had to finish another catcher and thrower to play full painted.  (Didnt bring me much luck though :D )
I modified the thrower a little by adding the wings to the helmet and the gem thingy to the breastplate. (from my HE bits box)

Also I got the test waterbase done for an imperial cruiser and started working on the frigates.

Cant find the tutorial I had but I used paper towels with pva glue but the towels have these dot patterns on it. Next time Ill try it with some tissue paper for a better surface.

On an Epic related note, I got my galeforce nine order and mixed Garid/Dark and Dead winter grass to get some desert grass. The whole army got their share of dead grass, one desert army still to go. :)
In hindsight I could have just used Dead grass all along as the mix looks pretty much the same. :D

Great work - what's that "imperial cruiser" there? It looks like a Warmaster, Forge World ship - or is it a historical one?

Thanks! Yes as Fracas said, those are the redesigned imperial ships that Spartan Games released last month or so.  A big improvement from the blocky ships they had before, but that means also more details to paint. :( :)

aaand theyre done! :) This brings my missing unit count to 3. So close and yet so far away. =)

Really enjoyed the room for freehands on this one. Definitely one of my favorite rare units even if theyre just one sculpt units.
The head of the phoenix on the banner was, as the great Bob Ross would say, a happy accident. :) I really kept the orange on them to a minimum as the flames should be the main center of attention. And those flames took me forever to get them right, alot of trial and error on this one.

Swordmasters are primed and ready to be painted next.

Those phenix guards are total! Love the painting colours and scheme. Good to see you painting more warmaster, seeing this unit makes me want to take the brushes again

Its always nice to motivate a fellow painter, also its good to be back. :) I really want to finish the army as fast as possible, so uncharted seas has been put on hold for the time being, maybe some Epic stuff will come in the way since theres an event in 2 weeks. But ill keep you posted!

Great phoenix guards and a nice addition to your army. I also like the smaller version of the big banner on the shield.

@Doc: Thanks, I was worrying  no one would notice that. :)

Sadly no paintwork to show, but I have some impressions from the epic event from yesterday.

Necron defending their homeworld against the orc hord.

Tyranids trying to eat a Tau homeworld but what they didnt realize was that they awoke the ancient inhabitants of this world:

As always on these events, I end up making not enough pics so sadly are all of them.
We played 3 games and I got to face 2 armies I never had the pleasure to play against. The first game was against orcs, which ended in a draw in round 3 (cause my opponent had to leave) but I had very good chances taking it in turn 4 because much of his stuff was broken and my robots just kept comming back.
Game 2 was against the legendary squats, who had a surprising amount of barrage weapons. But thanks to teleport I was able to cut the distance and take much of his smaller artillery out of action before it could reach its full potential.
What took away victory for me was my stupid objective setup, where I put one completly in the open and the second one in the ruins too far away, which allowed his superheavy tank (DC6 5VS ?? really :D ) to safely park on the open one all game. So the game ended in a draw in turn 4.
Game 3 against the tyranids was an interesting one, because that one time I faced an army that could replenish its numbers and even add more units to their formations. So obviously I was outraged and sad, that his units could come back from the dead as well. :D :)
With the help of good dice rolling and teleporting I broke and killed his strongest shooty unit and also broke and decimated another 2 infantry swarm as well. What I didnt know was the amount of units comming back and after the rallying phase those swarms were pretty much back to their original size.
From this moment on the objective was clear, kill all the synapse creatures (which allowed the swarming) But I really failed to do any damage on them, as he made all his RA saves and no swarmlord fell to shooting attacks.
His assaults were very unlucky as well, as he often missed his supporting shots and I made a scary amount of 4+ armor saves.
So in the end the tyranids were pretty much wiped out in turn 4 except for his 2 huge creatures and I won in turn 4 due to spectacular dice rolling.

So what has to be said is, that I was rolling lucky all day and pretty much all of my opponents struggled against the living metal because I kept making those saves. (I lost 3 monoliths in all 3 games combined)
But most importantly it was a fun day with lots of nicely painted armies and layed back players.
