BFG spacebuilder for android
« on: June 19, 2011, 06:53:41 PM »
Hi!
In case anyone of you has an android phone, I glued together an android app to generate a BFG space map as described in the rules (only that it always generates celestial phenomena, because my friends an me like it better this way).

Its name is spacebuilder and it's for free. Oh and by the way, it looks like crap :)

I will include an option to only generate celestial phenomena on 4+ to fully comply with the rules soon.

As for now, any feedback is highly appreciated!

Love it! This app is awesome. I think two options come to mind depending on your ability to do these... 1. could you have an option to pull up a window to explain the color coding? Also, a share option would be awesome so we could email a pic to friends or our computers so we can print the map.

Will the new version with the 4+ option also keep with the dimensions of things listed in the blue book?

Greetings!
Thanks for your good feedback! A window describing the colors is quite easy to make, I simply forgot it because I know which colors I meant :)
The share option is a great idea! I will definitely look into that.

The 4+ version will also keep with the dimensions listed in the blue book (I hope I got that question correctly, I'm not 100% sure what you meant)

Just give me a few days because the finals come closer every day now :)

Oi!
It's done.
You can now save your map to the gallery, where you have build in features to send the map.
A crappy looking help is now available and an option for spawning at 4+.
It now measures the display size correctly, no more out-of-screen suns.

More eyecandy after the finals :)

The update should be available through the appstore.
As always, more feedback is always welcome.

Edit: Damn I just found a spelling mistake :/ This will have to wait to the next update...

Sweet update! Thoughts I have...

1. a grid toggle would be nice so we can see the 60cm by 60cm sections.
2. an explanation in the help window about the sun line would be good.
3. maybe down the road, an option for table sizes would be awesome.
4. I think a quick "reroll" would be cool without switching to a different zone. say I want solar region; a way to keep randomizing quickly would help a lot.

Hey afterimagedan!

As always, very good ideas!
Unfortunately these will really have to wait a bit, because the first final is next Wednesday and I haven't started to study yet because programming was much more interesting :)
If I find any spare time I will try to implement these features, but I don't want to push an market update for each one of it, so the next update will include all 4 features, but will take perhaps 1-2 weeks.

Keep on playing :)

Awesome! Destroy those finals like a double Dictator alpha strike on a Tau Emmisary.

Hi!
One thing that came in to my mind: Does the table size really matter? Because the size of the celestial phenomena is always calculated the same way, their size doesn't change.
So if you increase the table size, it only scales the space between the cp (oh bad abbreviation). Having no table size at all means you have the size of the cp and just place them on your table with the same alignment they have on the screen. Having table sizes would mean to have measures for the spaces between the cp means you would have to measure those too.

While creating the app I took a medium table as scale factor, I think it should fit most.

Just my opinion, if you think it should definitely be in there let me know.

So far the app has 10 active installs, double of what I expected :)

Done!
It took a week longer than planned, but excessive drinking was obligatory after the finals.
I did all the features you requested, you are really helping me a lot.
As always, throw in new feature requests, it's my holidays now what else could I do than program.  ;D

Love the update. A few things...

1. I am getting overlap on the top text. Maybe just make the "Tap to generate space in a...." a little shorter? Maybe "Generate: New Zone" for completely random and "Generate: Same Zone" for the same? I like that you can see the zone type in the middle; that helps a lot.
2. I love that you can generate another random map in the same sector.
3. I LOVE that you can set the table size. This might not be possible but, if you set a new table size, is there a way the grid can stick to 60cm by 60cm? That would be gold. I can see some people (like myself) setting it to 120x240cm and having a grid that is 2x4 to match it would be awesome.

I love this app! I have told friends about it. We have used it a few times to set up our scenery. It's been awesome. We don't usually use the exact measurements but it is really nice for helping us picture a game table and helping us position things. I find that when we just set it up to be a good game table, it is usually way to symmetrical and seems very "planned."

Jup i saw the overlap just after releasing, so much about "testing your application on different devices" :)
I will shorten the text, 60x60 grids will come too.

I will do the text this evening, new grids will come perhaps tomorrow.

As always, thanks for the feedback!

i know this is a pretty old one, but i've just installed this thing, and wanted to say: this is some seriously awesome stuff!  :D

saves me a lot of time rolling on tables and looking up stuff, now its just one tap and there we go, a complete randomly generated space map!  :)
Nova Cannons are for these sissies who as a kid too preferred to throw stones at the others from a safe distance rather than closing in and get into a real fight ;D
