BFG Rules, which ones
« on: June 10, 2011, 02:16:40 PM »
We've been looking at picking up playing some games of BFG which lead us to download the rules from the GW website, but then I noticed there are more rules available from here, the BFG:R as it were. Are those rules the best ones to start with, they seem mostly the same.

Also I was looking at the Fleet lists as I want to play Eldar and noticed there are two lists 1.3 (Final) and 1.4 (MMS) the MMS one seemingly adding shields and changing how holofields work. What are the differences between these (What does MMS mean) and which one should we use?

BFG:R is better, but the rules are unofficial so you need your opponent's agreement to use them. Traditionally, the Eldar ships move in the move phase, shoot in the shoot phase, and then move again in the ordinance phase. In MMS, they move twice in the move phase and none at all in the ordinance phase. So they lose some hit-and-run capability, but the MMS sheild rules make them more durable.

The rules are:

v1.5 with integrated FAQ2007 available as pdfs from GW website (official)
v1.5 with seperate FAQ 2010 documents, available from flybywire's sig on this site (semi-official. GW taking forever to rubber stamp them.)
Eldar MMS  available here: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/archive/rules/gothic/geldarmms01.html
BFG:R available from Plaxor's sig, incorporating MMS (incomplete).

Can be found here along other goodies:

The MMS in BFG:R is slightly modded regarding how holofields work. The changes are supposed to be in standalone MMS 2.0 as well.
