Choose or roll refits for tyranid

First of all:
Hi and greetings, for this is my post here. :)

My friends and me started a campaign and since I'm playing tyranids I would like to ask you the following question:

We read most of the FAQs and our current state of knowledge is that in a campaign, tyranid players cannot buy refits when creating new ships, but earn them from battles.
So when a refits is earned, do you choose your refits or do you roll 2D6?

Since I can't choose refits when creating new ships I would think it's fair to be able to choose the refits, but I wanted to hear your opinions, too.

Another questions which comes up: Are tyranid ships able to increase their leadership after battles? How abound vanguard-fleet squadrons?

Welcome to the Forum!

It would still be random, but feel free to pick them if your opponent(s) agree.

Tyranid leadership does not increase for tyranids nor can they gain crewskills.

Tyranids are such a strange fleet that normal campaign rules don't represent them in an accurate manner. I wrote some experimental rules in Warp Rift a while back (WR16). Give them a butchers!

When I joined the Corp we didn't have any fancy smancy tanks! We had sticks! Two sticks and a rock for an entire platoon, and we had to share the rock!
