Chaos light Cruisers
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:47:14 AM »
Well, Chaos light cruisers have made their way into canon now with the Pestilaan Light Cruiser (Pg 107 of BFK).

Why do the Plague Fleets get all the cool shiz?

Anyway, looks like FFG have brought a whole new batch of ships into canon with this one.   Any thoughts on how these might mesh with BFG?

Yes, just like Powers of Chaos pt2 : IN light cruisers available to Chaos.

And, what it is the Pestilaan? A Dauntless. ;)

Sorry, Horizon, the picture, and rules, are not a Dauntless (very much not a Dauntless).  It looks more like someone took the picture of the Murder and sort of squished it around a bit in PS.

Quick and dirty conversion: 45 degree turns, 20cm, +6 armor, 1 sheild, 6 hits,  str 6 torps + boarding torps, str 5 45cm wb port and starboard, 30cm str 3 dorsal bombardment cannon.  mark of nurgle.  Special bonus: +1 to boarding actions and hit and run.

'It is thought that the Pestilaan-class is a long forgotten ancient light cruiser, upgunned and armored at the price of speed.'

Sorry, fluff says it's not a Dauntless either.  Maybe a Siluria or something, but not a Dauntless.

Tried to attach a quick scan of the pic, but...

They also have the Hellbringer, which seems functionally similar to a Strike Cruiser.

Yeeeaaaaah...   ;)

So, anyway, actual Chaos light cruisers exist in fluff now.  Maybe FAQ 2012 will carry them.

I also noticed that the Chalice class seems rather similar to the Mercury.

Though some of the Rules in this make little sense.  Such as the irremovable launch bays on the Defiant.  Or the fluff alterations to the Repulsive.  It seems like they were trying to reverse the situation they created by making the Lunar a generic hull you could mount anything on and make jsut about any Imperial ship class.

Personally, i would have done the same with the grand cruisers, since other then Repulsive, they're all the same hull with different weapon configurations, and introduced some new hulls, such as the Charybdis or some Kar Dunish or even Chaos hulls as available ship hulls.  I did notice that the amount of space a hull has was removed for NPC ships in this book.  Which is a shame because it was fairly useful to tell how much space and power weapon batteries that were not otherwise statted used.

Only if by BFG you mean the minutia of the IN.  The first chapter is mostly ships that already exist, though a few new faces.  Mostly it's more of the same.  I was seriously let down by the chaos hulls only being in as NPC ships rather then just giving us hulls ot work from (with the exception of the Iconoclast).  it's much easier as a GM to build a ship tailored to provide a foe for your party if all the ships use the same rules.

RPG rules using BFG ships.

Fantasy Flight Games also produces the WILDLY successful Wings of War game (the game that Forge World tried to borrow to make it's Aeronautica Imperialis).

Back in the OGL era, they also produced Dragonstar for D&D 3.x, which one of the better indie settings for D&D, and was sort of a successor to Spelljammer.

Heya,
On Defiant, yes, alas.
Lunar is a generic hull in essence.
The IN cruiser type is modular, just like CWE.

As for Chaos being NPC. Kinda mixed. Though the needed values are easily added I think.

I just tried deriving them from the Murder in Edge of the Abyss that has 75 space.  Which is more then most battlecruisers.

Okay, first of all... calm the fuck down everyone

Second, this is Fantasy Flight games, NOT gamesworshop.

This is Rogue Trader, NOT Battlefleet gothic

So, the end result is.... Shut up and deal with the rules or house rule your ships
