Tournament List advice
« on: December 27, 2010, 07:35:01 PM »
Okay folks, i am working out fleet lists for the Adepticon tournament... Here are my fleet lists, i could use some comments or advice for them.

Imperial Navy "Fleet of the Overlord" (Gothic Sector list)

2x overlords (with targeting matrix) LD 8 commander, 1 reroll.
2x Lunars
2x Dictators
1x gothic

Imperial Navy "Fleet Of the Avenger" (Segmentum Solar list)
2x Mars battlecruisers +LD 9 commander
2x Endeavor LC
2x Endurance LC
2x Avenger Grand Cruiser

Imperial Navy "Fleet of The Green Lake" (Segmentum Solar list)
2x Armageddon battlecruisers (1 with nova cannon)
3x Endeavor Light cruisers
1x Exorcist Grand Cruiser (assault boats added)
1x Oberon+ assault boats + LD 9 commander +1 reroll.

Here is my Chaos fleet
1x Despoiler (with torpedo's and LD 8 commander)
4x Slaughters
2x Acherons.

What do you think? I am pushing hard towards the Chaos fleet and the Fleet of the Avenger, but the Overlord list is great too...

With or without FAQ2010?

With the Overlord list will be a good one. I didn't calc exact points but you could add in targetting matrixes for the Overlord (220+15).

The rest isn't it for me.

And you lack escorts. In the Overlord list the Gothic could become Swords.

Yes, Adepticon will be working off of 2010 faq.. so yes it will have it's targeting matrix.

I only have falchions for the IN.

Whats wrong, Horizon, don't you like the idea of 4 light crusers, 2 battlecruisers and 2 grand cruisers?

I haven't seen this years scenarios, but based on the Scenarios of the 2010 tournament I would avoid light cruisers: there have been many primary or secondary goals that gave additional victory points for a randomly choosen (or even all) crippled capital ships - something that could happen easily to a light cruiser.

On the other hand there are also many missions/goals that force the enemy to destroy a specific ship (choosen by the player), so that I would advocate for a battleship, simply because these have most hit points/shields. Based on the idea that torpedos work a lot better if you have air superiority and at least one secondary mission forces you to make a hit&run attack this bb should be an emperor with Aboats.

The rest of the fleet should be based on either torpedospam or massed Novacannons.
The only greater (>20 players)  BFG Tournament I've seen here in Germany was won by an imperial Navy where every single ship had a Nova cannon...

I don't see any of the fleets as all that impressive, but I am curious as to their performance since they are working around changes to the IN fleet from FAQ2010. Of those I kind of like the avenger list and the overlord list, but I think you'd be better off with vengeance instead but I'm without access to the docs right now to check all the changes to the CG. The overlord list has me curious about the lack of escorts. I think you might be better off without the gothic and fiddle with escorts and NC.

EDIT: I'd be interested in seeing some escorts if you are using the new FAQ because of the death on a 4+ to AB rather than 2+. It might give them more utility in competition play.

Under no circumstances will you EVER need a 100 point admiral as IN in a tournament setting. Especially on an oberon or emperor with their +1 to LD.

On the oberon list, you can't fit everything there into 1.5k for the tournament. In fact, I don't think any of the new lists are as strong as the previous.

When were ram-spikes made legal for IN? Did I miss something?

Edit: legal in the gothic list. Hmmm.... never noticed.

Look at the 2010 FAQ... ram spikes are legal in ALL imperial navy fleets so long as they don't have a nova cannon.

Edited.. sorry.. The endeavors are Falchions! talk about a slip :P

I agree with Vaaish, the 100pts admiral is a waste on the Emperor & Oberon.

I am trying to build a list that is viable for using an Apoc or a repulsive GC.  It's not easy.

it you are using the apocalypse, take two dictators.

Apoc 365
2x dictator 440
Tyrant +range +NC 215
Gothic+ power ram 185
2x endeavour 220
admiral +reroll
1500 exact

If you don't want light cruisers, then drop those in favor of 6 swords or falchions. It's not what I'd take to a tournament but if you want to keep the Apoc it will work.
