Ships by sector
« on: December 15, 2010, 08:04:52 AM »
So after reading warp rift 30 and thinking about it for a while, I was wondering if we could get a listing of which segmentum IN ships are used.

From armada/BBB:

ShipObscurasTempestusPacificusSolarUltima
LunarYesYes?YesYes
GothicYesYesYesYesYes
DictatorYesYes?Yes?
TyrantYesNo?Yes?
DominatorNoYes?NoYes
DauntlessYesYes?NoYes
End/End/DefYesYes?Yes?
ArmageddonYesNo?Yes?
MarsYesYes?Yes?
OverlordYesYes?YesYes
VengeanceYesYesYesNo?
AvengerYesYes?Yes?
ExorcistYesYes?NoYes
RetributionYesNo?Yes?
EmperorYesYesYesYesYes
OberonNoNo?Yes?
ApocalypseYesNoYesYes?
FalchionNoNo?Yes?
SwordYesYes?NoYes
FirestormYesYes?YesYes
CobraYesYes?NoYes
InvincibleNoYes?No?
NemesisNo??No?
VictoryNoYes?NoYes
VanquisherYesNoYesNo?
FuriousYesYes?No?
CardinalYesYes?No?
JovianNoYes?NoYes
SerpentYesNoYesNo?
OrionNoYes?NoYes
Daemon SlayerNoYes?NoYes
HawkingYesYesYesYesYes
EnforcerNoYes?NoYes
SiluriaYesYesYesYesYes
ViperNoYes?NoYes

There are a few peculiarities:

Firestorm: Is included in the armageddon list, and is mentioned as an upgraded sword, but there aren't swords in this list?
Endeavors: These feel like they shouldn't be in the Obscuras list, they'll probably be removed in 'flawed ships'
Dauntlesses/Cobras: For some reason I feel like I was reading about Inquisitor Kryptman and he was on a dauntless with a squadron of cobras watching the nids eat a planet. Which means they would be in the Ultima segmentum. Not sure though.
GCs: Some are mentioned very vaguely. Like the Exorcist is just mentioned as being stationed at the edge of the imperium, and patrolling into the halo.
Armageddon: "Most segmentums have a few apocalypse"  Which doesn't?

The Ships compendium has a lot of ships from tempestus and ultima, but most of them are weird or need changes.

I'd say the Lunar, Gothic, Tyrant and Dictator are probably found in all Segmentums, as they're the mainstay cruisers.

I would expect the Emperor and Retribution to be similiarly ubiquitous.

A quick look at Lexicanum revealed the following:

Godefroy Magnificat, an Apocalypse that served in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade in Pacificus.
Dominus Astra, an Emperor that played a pivotal role in the battle for Macragge, also in Pacificus.
Relentless is the Lunar Class star of its titular novel, set in the Bethesba sector of Ultima Segmentum.
Righteous Power is an Overlord that took part in the Taros Campaign in Ultima Segmentum.
Invincis Squadron, Swords, Taros, Ultima.
Novem Squadron, Firestorms, Taros, Ultima.
Omna Squadron, Cobras, Taros, Ultima.

Yes, gothic is listed as in all segmentums, and the lunar and modified lunar (dictator) are probably found in all segmentums, however the Tyrant is not listed as being part of battlefleet bakka in segmentum tempestus. If another fleet list was drawn for Ultima, this would likely be the ship lost.

Looking at lexicanum:

Hammer of Thrace: A lunar in the taros campaign, so Ultima
Relentless: From the BL novel relenless, a lunar in Ultima
Cerebus/August: Daunless in the Taros Campaign: Ultima
Pax Imperium: Mars BC that was flagship of Lord Solar: Tempestus
Niobe: An Overlord that participated in the Damocles Crusade: Ultima
Lord of light: Macharian Crusade: Tempestus

That's harvested from Lexicanum. Will update list.

Yeah... you might be seeing me sooner or later    ;-)
I think the Dutch have a nice naval tradition (rather then a navel one)
I think I even have the "older" version of BFG ?!?  where you had to roll dice in a boxlid that was divided into spaces to determine results ....??!!

@Lex Sounds like Space Fleet to me. BFG is a new game compared to it ^^

At the moment, why would anybody play Tempestus fleets ? They have the oldest ships ans only one battleship. Maybe drop the reserve rules to 1:2 instead 1:3 for Tempestus to make the list somewhat appealing for the ships you can get as reserves are "outdated" to the IN.

It's not a legal list, and the only thing they lose out on is battleships (3 of them, but they get one) and battlecruisers (they lose the apocalypse) however everything else they either trade (dominator for tyrant in case of cruisers), or they gain some (CLs and escorts)

It's decent enough.

I was only comparing to BBB/Armada, adding the unofficial stuff makes it decent but with that it has no chance to become official. So this was my suggestion in case the HA will get involved with the segmentum list idea. It fits the fluff.

My question is: what do we do with ships that appear in canon, but are not statted for BFG?

Redeemer Heavy Cruiser - Obscurus (Emperor's Finest)
Relentless class cruiser - Obscurus (BFG Blue Book)
Tempest class frigate - Obscurus (RT)

We also only have the civilian version of the Kar-Duniash class cruiser (Ultima).

Gah, Kar-Duniash isn't a class! Civilian? Do you mean military?

I was hoping that the HA would consider giving the ship class a name, I suggested the Hydra.

As that ship has 4 torps instead of 6, and the dominator is in main-use, It would be interesting to see a fleet based around less torpedoes, and possibly with more launch bays and nova cannons. With the victory, jovian and enforcer included as an Ultima fleet list.
