Except for the monitors, but even with them i'm tempted to change them to RN navy names.  The escort carrier is named for an oil tanker in WWII, I can't remember why now.

Edit: I was thinking the Gorgon, Erebus and the Terror.  I originally named them after Norse Gods for fluff reasons due to the ongoing campaign I was, and still am, involved in.

Erebus and Terror are REALLY ill omened names to give ships if that's your naming convention....

LOL No, they're ill omened because Terror and Erebus were the two ships of the Franklin Expedition, not because they were dark.. thought that is also true.

The Franklin expedition? The one in 1845 (?)  I didn't know the Erebus and Terror were part of that.  Thanks for telling me.  I was referencing the mythological context of the name Erebus, who is the son of the primordial god chaos....

I'll post exact names later (when I have access to them), but I follow basic themes for each fleet.

Dark eldar are latin translations of words like pain, torture, etc.

Eldar are latin translations of words like peace, etc. (IIRC)

Imperial ships use Greek mythology (titan names for battleships and grandcruisers, working my way down to the names of the furies for light cruisers). I try to avoid the more well known names though.

My space marine ships are named after greek mythology/historical characters. Again I go for the less well known ones (they also tend to be hard to pronounce).

I don't name my tyranid or necron ships, as I doubt they would use names themselves. I had a friend who "named" his necron ships by giving them numbers in binary though.
