TEASER Roll over dragons !
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:47:05 PM »
Your army has a character on a dragon (or other mount with attack capabilty). During one COMBAT phase you want to optimize the use of the dragon, by having him fight joined with at least two different units.

HOW DO YOU DO THAT

Shall I really tell?
Has it something to do with terrain?  ;)

I think Gerald should be banned from posting on these  :D
I had no idea before the pointer.
As I have said before these really do help people gain a greater understanding of the rules.

Ok, ok, I'll shut up.  :-[
All these tricks are "bad habit"-tactics imo anyway...  ;)

legal within the rules, so making more people aware of them levels the playing field.

Go ahead and post more Gerald, I know you can think up some   8)

Again I find myself agreeing with Gerald.
Relying on 'quirks' in the rules to win is incredibly bad form.
But as I previously posted questions of this nature make players take a more thorough look at the rules.
That can only be a good thing.

And the good thing is, those cheesy tricks never had too much impact whenever I saw them in game. I saw the above example only happen once and it was not worth mentioning.
But still no one found the solution yet, right?

So who knows the solution?

Here comes a somewhat twisted idea, never tried it though.

First: An infantry unit charges a cavalry/monster unit and they make sure that there is a wood or the like nearby in their direct rear and within a few cm.

Second: Another unit, whichever, charges another enemy and they make sure that the point where the first unit may withdraw into the wood is within 30cm.

Third: the dragon joins the first unit and they start the combat.

Combat: When the first unit withdraws/falls back into the wood leaving the enemy cav/monster outside, the dragon leaves and joins the other unit within 30cm. Then the second unit start their combat.

Correct?

I think that the character attached with a unit will have the same fate that have that unit in the combat phase.

if the unit fall back, the carachter attached too. If the unit is destroyed, the carachter attached too.

how the dragon "leaves" to the unit within 30cm?. That actually ocurred if the dragon is not attached.

Thats what I think, I guess I could be wrong

Hi wmchaos2000,

I believe that the dragonmounted character is unable to enter the wood (because the dragon is a monstrous mount) and therefore is forced to join another unit within 30cm.
If unable to do so it would be destroyed just like a unit forced into impassable terrain (like woods for cav and monsters).
