What conversion blister?

Can we see escort next to cruiser for an idea of scale?

And as always, WIP how-to! :)

the DE blister that comes with 3 fins and weapons. a load of those and i have plenty to magnetise up. ^^

scale:

profile of archon cruiser

top down of cruiser 2

cruiser 2

escorts: assemble hellion board as normal. take back section of DE body, trim the top and stick it to the front, giving the effect shown. if it were made properly, the front of the cockpit section would be at the base of a hellion's back.

cruiser 2: assemble jetbike chassis as normal, including fins at rear. turn over, and stick main hull to underside of chassis (now on top). chop off top of flight stand, and insert into top for observation dome. add shoulder pad to top as a kind of canopy. top fin is made by chopping the splinter rifle from the rest of the piece, and carving up to fit on the back. the splinter rifle is stuck to the front of the chassis, now underneath the hull. finally, i got some old jetbike fins (the only bit not from the kit) and sunk them into the bottom of the ship (where the saddle is), which also has a handly hole for a flight stand. extraneous footholds and handles were trimmed, then it was painted.

archon cruiser: build jetbike as normal hull and all, but slip in a hellion top half above the saddle. the top was then built up with various bits.

you cant see it in the pics, but each ship has a 3mm magnet sunk into the underside for weapon attachments.

the cost is 1 box of jetbikes (£21) and 2 boxes of hellions (£15 each) total of £51. the only extras used were the old jetbike blades on the second cruiser. with what i bought i was able to make 1 archon cruiser, 2 normal cruisers, and 9 escorts. if i had the funds to stretch, i would have got more hellions and made all the cruisers like the archon one, and added splinter cannons in more places.

painting was very simple: spray black, paint vallejo hot orange (GW blazing orange) onto orangey bits, add to it with 2-3 layers of cheap acrylic neon/fluorescent paint to make it 'glow' (the orange base coat makes it a darker orange than on white), clean up edges with black, highlight occasional edges with a dark grey and have a bit of fun with the jewels. dead simple (i just lack patience) :P

that, or get these, for about the same price, but getting 3 more escorts. less dark eldar-ey, more tron-ey, but you can always add spikes.

the escorts look a better scale too :P

will post a full fleet pic when i get round to finishing them.

I realize this is old, but I just noticed what appears to be metal in the WIP pics?  I thought the kits were all plastic is all.

I'm bringing this up because I just ordered some DE boxes to start converting, and am still waiting on more WIP walkthrough! :)

Yes the new DE models are all plastic. Don't get confused now, the Black with orange red highlights are by a different person than the ones with the metal bits. Just to clarify.

I need to finish painting my DE escorts. I did some pretty interesting weapons arrangements on my vessels using some of the pistols and such that were for the riders.

Also realized that the hook chain bits will be perfect for Stryxis vessels :)
