Great work on those swordmasters and great copy of the WHFB starter box banner. (at least I think it is) The spearman look equally great especially with that mounted commander!

Looking forward to see the castle in a more manly color. :D :P

@Guthwine:

Yeah, the banner "inspired" me a bit. I became desperate trying to paint the stupid halfmoon/ sickle type thing. I wish I had your creativity and didn't have to copy.

@ BlackEd

Hehe. That's a good one. I had to google this. Best I like the dancing scene, the Jackalope and the jumping gophers! Actually the whole short movie  ;D

A little update of my work.

Some months ago I did these dragon princes. I am quite happy with them although the command strip is missing and the minis feel more heavy than the usual GW ones.

After these I didnt have any motivation left for painting. After quite a break I finally decided to start painting my empire minis as my next army. I hesitated quite a long time because I was pampered painting high elves and skeletons. Both armies are quick and easy to paint.  But the empire guys with all these small detail like mustaches and quatered uniform patterns discouraged me from painting them. But reading some empire background fluff about the provinces gave me the much needed push.
So I decided for an Averland army. So far I almost finished the first unit of halberdiers. It will be a long way...

Some time ago I saw an article about WM special units and there were some pictures of self made empire greatswords in it. Immediately I fell in love with them. Since that I always had this thought of my own greatsword unit on my mind.

The greatswords look... great! I really like that building too. Is it a scratchbuild?

Doubleclick:  Those greatswords are nice!  Do you remember where you saw the article for the self-made greatswords?  I'm thinking about doing something similar.

Thanks!

This is the link to schwager's converted greatswords:

http://www.sg.tacticalwargames.net/fanatic/97gs.pdf

I'd like to say thank you to schwager for the great idea and for the really useful tips he gave me to do this conversion aswell.

edit: get some of these plastruct 0,5mm x 1,0mm plastic stripes and cut the swords out of them. Remove the halberds or Xbows with pliers and a file and leave a little bit as a sword shaft. Glueing the swords on the mini at two spots helps with stability (eg hand and feather/hat)

The first 45 points are done! Only 1955 to go. I bet my next army will be chaos with mostly chaos knights and warriors....
I'm not sure about the 10mm bay leaves on the banner. Somehow they look funny, more like little worms. Maybe I'll over paint them black. Any ideas on how to paint them right or alternatives?

I also primed the greatswords, one more unit of halberdiers, 2 crossbows and one battery of cannons. This gives me some basic troops for 1000p.

@ schwager

Hi mate

Are you still down under or already back in the old world? I'm already excited about painting the great swords as next unit. Your first ones will always be the best no matter what golden demon comes around!

Thank you, sir! Really appreciate you saying that :)

Great work on those halberdiers. Love the subtle colours, the base looks ace and the work on the banner is outstanding!

And yip, still down under... still thinking about returning to the old world, too, but not sure when yet.
