Thanks again!  :D

Should we ask CS to take down the forums so you can get to 2k? :P

Lol, I already got the next core troops for another 1k on my workbench and ready to be painted. But what's more of a distraction right now than the forum is Warmaster ancients. I found a gaming group in my area that play WMA. Now I plan to infiltrate them with an ancients army and convert them all to fantasy.  :) Or maybe it happens to be the other way round. So with an ancients army on my mind I don't have much hope to reach the 2k of empire troops in the near future...

While the forum was down I had some time to finish two unit of knights. This gives me the last troops I need for a nice 1000p empire list.

1 general
1 hero
1 wizard with the ring of magic

Infantry Block:
2 halberdiers
1 greatswords (halberdiers with the sword of might)
1 crossbowmen

Cavalry Wing:
2 knights
1 pistoliers

Missile Brigade:
1 cannon
1 handgunners
1 crossbowmen

I hope I can post some pics of the whole army soon. Meanwhile here are the two units of knights:

Knights of the elector count of Averland:

Knights of the blazing sun:

HOLY SHIT! Dude... serious skill. I'm jealous  :o

I'm not exaggerating when I say these are the nicest Empire knights I have ever seen!

David and Ironpainter: That's so nice of you and makes me proud like a schoolboy.  ;D

Ironpainter: Jealous? Just look at your undead and you see some serious skill....  Your shading is just unbelievable!

Thanks Vicent and Kesseki.

No problem. Once the empire army is finished I got some more armies to offer. I got a huge pile of Chaos, O&G, Dwarves that awaits painting. You got the choice  :D

I think we just have two different styles but yours should have the utmost respect!

The empire strikes back! Slowly but steady. This gives me the first part of the core troops I need for the next 1000 points. Next on the workbench are 2 units of xbows to make it a legal 2000k army later.

That's an honour to hear that from you. Somehow my empire paint scheme is very forgiving and well suited for that devlan mud wash. I am so happy with their look. Compared to them I am not very happy with my high elves and undead although at a first glance they seemed to be much easier to paint than the empire troops.

Spectacular!, how long do you take to paint an only unit at this level?

These look great, I think you've pulled off the trick of getting the models to look great from close up AND from a gaming distance. They're nice and bright without looking daft, fantastic.

I have a feeling I must respond to his unoffical banner challenge at some point - yours are stupendous.

I can't believe how well you've pulled off such a dark colour scheme... With yellow / gold in it... And it doesn't look grungy or messy.

Thank you guys.
how long do you take to paint an only unit at this level?
I would calculate 10h for a unit of halberdiers, 7h for xbows. That includes priming, varnishing and basing. I'm painting very slowly and could save an hour or two or even three if I sped up. But correcting small mistakes I only know of and that you wouldn't see from more than a foot also consumes time.  :P But hey, these guys fight for me so they deserve a good treatment! For my next units I will try to check the time.

@banner:

The banner with the sword I already had in stock. It was the banner I originally painted for my greatswords. But somehow it didn't look mean enough for an elite unit. So I painted another one for them with two bigger swords crossed and had this one left for the halberdiers. That's why there are only 5 guys in the front row.
But this kind of banner painting takes too much time for me and now I'm going to stick with more simple patterns as they also give a great effect from far away like on the other unit.

Another awesome unit!

I don't have the skill to handpaint banners like yours, so I just paint them a simple, two colour scheme background e.g. half red/half white and then add a transfer (old warhammer transfers are great).

Keep up the good work!
