Diasporex fleet: what would you say about?
« on: September 28, 2010, 03:00:03 PM »
Hi!
I want to ask to you what do you think about this fleet:
Diasporex fleet appeared for the first time (correct me if I'm wrong) on Warp Rift n°15.
The backround of these ships is based on the old vessels of the dark era of tecnology, when the Imperium wasen't still born: for this reason this fleet is chaos look-like (=old old ships).
The core idea of this fleet is that, given the base, on every ship (for example, there is one model of carrier and two modest gun ships, one with lances and the other with WB) the player has the possibility to take upgrades choosing from a list, similar to the refits of the campaign rules but this action can be done even in normal games (so without a campaign). Of course there is a limitation on how many upgrades can be took (also because they cost in point).

This fleet fascinates me for mainly two reason:
-the backround: the humans of this fleet rapresent better the genre of sciencefiction that I like: for example there are not techno priest but engineers  :P and they are allied with aliens (this thing rapresented by an alien specific ship that can be taken into the fleet) rather then burning them in Middle Ages style
-the personalization of the ships (that is not obligatory), always done following strict rules

What would you say? Is that an occasion to gain variety for BFG or it's an horroryfing way to ruin the game?
It has more ships than the Dark Eldars, but far less then IN or Chaos...

Can I link here the Warp Rift (n°15) where this fleet is described?

P.S. those ships have to be build with Chaos hulls, so there's no conflict with gw

yes, the remake of this fleet has been a great job. Now I'm building the ships copying the photo that is inside your document  :D
I like it all except for some refits: if I had to choose, I would use the first version of them (maybe I need more experience).
I really liked the work on the backround too

thanks!

I understand one's gripe with the upgrade list... it was easily the most difficult part of the list to make!

Please understand why i made the new list.  First things first, the old list had some combo's that could render a battleship virtually indestructible....Since i am a man of balance, it's not exactly the best way to go.  I would love to hear your gripes and opinions on how it could be improved though!

Linking to WR is allowed.

I would go by the newer list and keep the WR one for inspiration. ;)

Maybe one combo on the battleship of the old list was +1 shield, 6+ armour and the save on shields?
In the few games that i proxed this fleet, I usually played the battleship with +1 shield and 6+ armour, on the cruiser i mounted only the 6+ armour; I choose so for an experiment, I enjoyed it. My friends told me to give to the battleship the save on shields, they weren't so worry because they soon learnt that I used this ship to attract the fire and they learnt as well that was better to ignore it, concentrating on cruisers.
If you say that the new fleet is the result of a need of a more balanced game, I believe you because I'm not so experienced.
With the new list I would choose the 6+ armour on the sides for every vessel, plus the +1 shield only on the battleship (jovian class). I will try this fleet in the next game. Of course there will be one ceti cruiser with all EM disruptors. I still have to control how many points are, but this will be the objective I would follow.
Also 1 Mercury escort at least  ;D

My opinions on how improve the list? I have to gain more experience...  :)

How would you see if this fleet would become official one day?
I mean: I like Dark Eldars but this fleet has more than them to offer... maybe it's too early?

Cool idea.  No where near commenting though.  Such a complicated fleet list, I have no idea what to think until I find someone to try it out for me :)

Looks so very cool. Should be pretty fun to try, and has some interesting combinations...

2 Lance escort with 2 Shields for 55 points!

How finished/balanced is this fleet considered to be, out of curiosity?

I played few games against Chaos and Space marines, they didn't lose their suit. Has anyone tried them?

Yup, 55 points, but watch out for enemy torpedo's and a-boats.. they are a killer :D

I own a gigantic fleet, you know, being the re-creator of the list..  I have played it against several fleets.

I would say they are reasonably balanced. if you kit out a fleet filled with upgrades, you will find yourself with a small handful of ships that can be outflanked.  If you take few upgrades and many ships, you may find that they suffer a lot of chaos' weaknesses without their blinding speed.

On the whole, it's an extremely balanced list, and even more versatile.

One important note, that helped me change the upgrade list to what it is now:

In the old rules, you could have a battleship with 6+ armor on all sides, a 5+ save on all shield hits, and force every torpedo strike to re-roll it's hit.  That creates an unbreakable ship and i really just don't support that.

Please, do read the Book of the Void, commentary is always appreciated!

Should be fast enough to avoid non tau/homing torpedos, and the new a-boat/escort rules will cetainly help with the a-boat problems...

Stop making me want another fleet!!! I've still got 2 to finish (along with 2 epic armies and....)

The Diasporex enjoy 'tricking out' their escort craft a great deal, since it's the easiest class of vessels to construct with their limited resources.. they are lucky if they get to build a cruiser or two every century.

Just be keenly aware.. the more you give them toys, the more the enemy will focus on them. Even if they have absurd firepower, they lack staying power.  and A-boats will still wax you on a 4+

Think of it this way, the Diasporex fleet is swappable with a chaos fleet, so when your buying it, your in fact getting two fleets for the price of one!
