[WM] MPetz's Skaven Army
« on: May 10, 2009, 10:48:23 AM »
Hi all readers.
I just wanted to share my Skaven Army with you, which is mostly done. So what happened? Bought them from a friend here who has painted quite much of it. After this I started to paint them myself and tried to keep the spirit and look of the Skaven that I bought. Which means:
- only 4x2 Skaven per Stand (instead of 6x2) .. this is a nice way to keep the army cheap(er) ;) It may not look that good, but I dont have the money (or just dont want to spend that much on miniatures:D) and even not the patience for 6x2 Skaven per Stand
- Basing almost the same
- colours for basing, coat, skin and shields the same

So here are a few pics of the already painted bought part:

I also got a few pics of the units I painted:

My latest work (some violett Clanrats):

Hope you enjoy them. Greetings from Austria.

Too clean for skaven  ;)
Again very nicely painted figs.
Are you planning on doing any conversions?

Thanks for the comments :)

Conversions? I dont know ... I am not that good with handling green stuff and so. But I always thought to use some "fallen" high elves characters on the skaven "hero" stands. Or maybe I could do a warp lightning in action.
But first of all I should finish some more troops. Cant wait to play full painted 2000 points :)

... and again 50pts more painted :)
This time a Warplightning Cannon. Feared from enemies AND Skaven :D

Tried a little bit of OSL this time (see in pic 3, 4) from the warpstone. Poor Crewman, inside of the cannon and the ground are green from the light of this radioactive stone  :)
I also wanted to keep the metallics dirty bec. its not a clean steam tank from empire.

Hope you like them.

Looks great, the base is incredible, and also the rat head in the banner :).

Another aspect that I like a lot is the photography. Only for curiosity, which camara/setting do you use to take such pics?

I am very interested in your proyect because i do not have skaven range and never seen the figures so close and with all the detail. Very interesting.

Thank you for comment :)

I use a quite cheap digital camera from OLYMPUS (FE-200) with 6megapixels. For the pics I place the miniature(s) on white paper which is on the one edge horizontal (the place where the miniature stands) and then I bend (bend - not fold!) it and fix it on e.g. a book. I use 2 lamps ... i dont know the exact enlish words so ill post a pic:
Kind of those lamps: http://www.tme.eu/katalog_pics/0/6/4/064c34aecddd68c3656be721eb3e3912/dl-twin.jpg (bought one for ~25€)
with those "bulps" in them: http://www.tme.eu/katalog_pics/6/5/7/6578e85e51b81d2c6fca329df9be4a30/dl-deluxe_s.jpg
The cam is fixed on this stativ: http://picture.yatego.com/images/4124cde4b859a4.1/00004010abb.jpg (yep EXACT this ;))
I use "makro" settings and am about (dont know exactly) 8-10cm away from the miniature. After taking the pics I equal them with corel photo paint (something like photoshop ... kind of those programms but for free would be Paint.net) and stick them together.

Hope my broken English can help you a bit ;)

All is clear Maister, Dont worry for the english, mine is horrible too.

I need some of these white light bulps, I have yellow ones and the pics looks terrible. Then I use daylight, but not always possible makes photos to the figures at that time.

thanks for the information

But I've also read a how-to-do topic in another forum. The guy uses normal 60W bulbs (the normal ones) and in front of every of his lamps he put a milky glass (dont know if it is the right word). Here a link: http://www.glastische.de/images/Tisch%20Milchglas.jpg
I didnt try this version but he said it helps a lot and he even made pics which were quite nice.

Niek - Niek. More lightning we need ... more-more powersss. Get the slaves-slaves in here, I want to try this machine on them-them.

Slaves appear, trembling in fear as green and hot lightnings cut the thick air. As the fog from the machine disappeares their dead bodies cover the ground. Skritt Arquiek, leader of the main clan in the underground of Alcyon grinned crazy. Good work-work. The horned rat will be pleased. Now quick-quick get this cannon to the others, we will need them in the next few battles-battles.
Without hesitation the technicians rolled the big machine and placed it next to the others.

Hope you like them, maybe you want to vote on CMON: http://www.coolminiornot.com/230141
