[Bretonnie] Hero on hypogryph
« on: June 14, 2017, 06:15:34 AM »
Be gentle, it's my first use of Green Stuff to transform a figurine. I had only used it to glue or fill holes before that.

I had bought a Ral Partha Hypogryph two years ago and i finaly took time to upgrade it to a decent Warmaster bretonnian mount.

I manage to separate a hero from the characters blister from his horse and remove most of the metal between his legs.

Then i have added straps and the character himself, with a cloth at the front.

I was near to stop here but finaly added a rear cloth... And it was far better. I manage to do something cleaner (and now the front addition see ugly).

Aaaand finaly took my courage and worked on the reins. And i'm happier with them.

He still have his savage look but seem bretonnian :)

Really great work!  I have only seen one or two hand converted models like this for Warmaster so it's nice to see a new one!

A nice, epic scale sized figure. Good use of green stuff!

Nothing wrong with your sculpting skills. Nothing at all.

Thanks everyone :) It helps !

David, if by Epic you mean a little too bg for our scale, it was my first impression...

And now when i put it nearby classical unit, i think i was wrong and it fits the WM range pretty well. It's just it has its wings deployed and the creature itself is in extension.

But it's not that big. Have a look. I took that picture after my first work on it.

That'll be a damn fine centrepiece for your army! Good work with the sculpting, you've really made the beast look ready to tear into your enemies.

It's addictive isn't it?

Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks all ! Your comments are motivating.

I have changed the first front sections i had put at first. They where my very first attempt and i have changed to a better technic now.

I may re make this one. I like the triangular end i have added but the movement is not very visible. Wind of the movement should inflate it more than that.

I had not spotted the thing but... You're damn right ! That is exactly the word. Addictive ! Plenty of projects in my head (again...). So few time to build them !

Here we are with painting, at last :)

At first, i worked on the animal itself. I was hesitating and wanted to see if my grey schema was ok. And i think it is. I wanted a very natural colour to contrast with the colourfull decorations and the human clothes.

I have continued with the painting of the front. Layers of grey with washes of charadon granite and nuln oil, mainly. Some very ocres for the claws and beak.

I have been hesitating for the blue and red colour. I wanted the human in blue, bretonnian colours. But i liked the animal in rdark red. It fits well with the animal coulour. Finaly i have chosen both colours, but it's strange. generally, animal and human have the same colour.

Anyway, here it is on his new base.

Under the animal, i have choses to add a crackling paint on the flat zone. It's a nice but cheap effect ;)

Wiill try to end it this next Week-End.

Looking fabulous!  Do you use the Games Workshop cracking paint, or another manufacturer?

Lovely result. You can be proud of that. Washes have worked very well on the beast.

Here is the end of my hero on Hypogryph !

And here he is amongst troops.

After that i just added some GS bits to change the metal spar maintaining the foreclaw to make it looks like a tree.

After painting it descentnly looked like an old dead trunc.

And i have painted a new squire unit. I had only one.

And an archer unit. My three ones where unpainted ! I still have two to add...
