Appeal charts
« on: April 26, 2016, 05:08:12 PM »
With an upcoming campaign in the next few weeks, I was wondering if you guys could give me some input for the appeals charts.
Which ones do you generally use? Standard Rulebook, BFG Mag 12, other sources?
What are your impressions balance-wise? It strikes me as odd, for instance, that on all the Chaos god charts, the lowest result is always something pretty crippling, while the lowest Space Marine Chapter appeal is a free Battlebarge...

Thanks to everyone with insight into the matter, I'm currently debating with myself wether to leave the appeal tables out althogether  :-\

I subtly (and not-so-subtly) rewrote the charts for my revised campaign rules.  Among other things, nixed the disastrous result for Forces of Chaos (it now turns one of your ships into a Daemonship), as well as tying into my Resources rules (Imperial players don't get a free battle barge for one mission, but can spend Resources to add a Battle Barge to their Fleet Registry).  Also took advantage of the Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine rules in later BFG supplements to better co-ordinate things.  Take a gander if you're interested:

I'm also toying with adding other Appeals charts, suggested by the Favors in Battlefleet Gothic:  Armada.  An Adeptus Mechanicus and Inquisition Appeals chart, for instance, with their own benefits.  Maybe an Imperial Navy one, too, though the idea of asking for favors from yourself seems a little odd.

I will look into it tomorrow evening, thanks!

As for the Inquisition appeal chart, BFG Mag #12 features 3 appeal charts for different imperial factions (namely Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy and Planetary Governors), you might want to have a look at those!

Here! Issue 12 ;D These tables are far more interesting than the rulebook table, but much more imbalanced.
I refuse to be killed by something I've never heard of.

Hm. The bad stuff first:

- does it make sense to apeal to a planetary governor? If the imperial navy supports a large fleet in your system, capable of exterminatus, why should you apeal to a governor?

- the dark eldar chart has some issues; dark eldar assault ordnance ist 30cm (the chart may be older then armada ^^, no big issue ), but all "slave labor" and "mechanicus servitor" - results doesn't make sense. Humans are unable to reproduce eldar/dark eldar/craftworld eldar technology. We are talking about wraithbone construction here. "pirate base in commoragh" doesnt make sense. There are reasons why the pirate bases are located in the sector and not somewhere else.

If you ask me: Drop the governor, rework the dark eldar table. Maybe the other tables should be compared to the blue book and armada tables (the reason why the eldar tables have no "add a craftworld/dark eldar ship for the next battle" - t is: there where no ships for them when these charts came out, this has changed).

In the end, it is a very good startig point if you wan't to create apeal charts. But they should be read often and very carefully, need some fine-tuning and then you will get something you can use.
